I just got the letter for the Naturalization Interview at the Honolulu office in March, I applied under the 319(b) case. If I passed the test, will I get to take the oath in that same week? Need to plan for the hotel and the air plane ticket but don't know for sure how many days we will need. Greatly appreciated for any advice or tips. Thank you!!!

What is you address that you provided them. Usually, if your address is far and they are aware of the distance, a lot of time they accommodate people and get them to take the oath on the same day. However, if you are living near by (based on the address) then they will tell you to except a letter in the mail with the oath ceremony. Not sure if it will help, but you can schedule an infopass and ask about these details, they may not have all the information but they could provide you with a little more details that you already have.

Honolulu oath-taking ceremonies are usually held every Wednesday at 2pm except the first Wednesday of the month. If you live outside of Oahu, and are scheduled for interview on a Wed. morning, there's a good chance that you will take your oath that afternoon. Mind sharing your interview date?

I don't know if 319(b) naturalization and oath-taking procedures are the same in Honolulu as those going through the regular procedure. They might still be able to accommodate same-day oath-taking. Here is the contact info that I found that may lead you to a definite answer:

Naturalization applicants residing outside the United States may contact the Honolulu office at Hawaii.naturalization@dhs.gov for information and questions regarding naturalization applications and procedures.

United States military members and spouses should contact the military helpline at 1-877-247-4645 or www.uscis.gov/military

please post back when you find out because I know a couple of people in the service wanting to know the same. thanks and good luck!

Thanks Sunny, I have seen/know a lot of people applied under 319(b) section and living oversea had gone to hawaii and get everything done within the same week (including the passport) before, but since it seemed like a lot of things has changed regard to becoming a u.s. citizen - so I am not sure if I still can rely on the information that I have, thought maybe someone here just done it recently. Anyhow, I'll post it when it's done.

Hi,

about taking the oath, if you are not a local (over sea like me) you will be schedule to have an interview and taking the oath ceremony within the same week. The interview was pretty easy but they also check every information that you provided on the application also, if something is questionable they would ask you - in my case, was the last name. If you passed the interview, they will give you the paper to bring it back to them on Wednesday for the oath ceremony. The ceremony won't take long, I suggest you made the reservation for the U.S. Passport on that Wednesday after you finish the oath ceremony (the officer at the immigration will also tell you that too if you're over sea). The U.S. Passport office is within the walking distance, make sure you tell them that you want it expedite so you will get the passport around 2 p.m. on Friday.

I am not sure if I explain it enough but if any more question, please let me know.

Little pig.
