I think it's a bit disingenuous to imply that there is not a rampant problem among the Muslim community. Honor killings/suicide bombers/the way women are treated as second class citizens...come on now.

That's your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. But if you are not a muslim and you dont live in those countries...what do you care? Are they killing you or your family? Are they coming into your home bothering you with thier thoughts and beliefs? No they aren't. What may seem strange to you, is absolutely normal for them.

Absolutely agree that's when you should care. Makes me mad as hell to. But that's not what this thread is about. It's about the "old" beliefs that its ok to kill your daughter if she doesn't to the "right thing". Look, I feel sorry for this girl too...I think its absolutely wrong. But, this girl knew what she was doing. She knew what would happen to her if she dishonored her family. And like Sara said...just because certain individuals go around blowing things up and killing innocent people and carry an arabic name, does not make them muslims. And its absolutely wrong to blame all muslims for what a few cowards do. When a man here rapes and kills his child do we say "oh that christian is a terrorist?" How about George Bush? He is a religious man. He's the biggest terrorist I know. He sent troops to iraq and blew up many houses/buildings with many many innocent people in them. All I am saying is ...let them live their lives the way they want to and have for hundreds of years. If they dont like it and ASK for our help...by all means...go there and make change for them. But if they aren't asking...stay the hell out of it. IT'S NOT OUR BUSINESS.

Hey, I'm not talking about ALL Muslims, just the ones that pervert the religion to justify violence against others. That should go without saying, but for the sake of disclaimers, I'll go ahead and say it.

To imply, think, or even propose that these 'Muslims' are not a real and present threat to ANYONE who does not share their beliefs is short sighted and ill-advised. And really, I will be shocked if anyone here can disagree with this.

The initial point I was making in this thread was that IMO, there are more perversions of the Muslim religion....more atrocities committed in the name of Allah...than any other religion. And the more there are, the more it gives it a bad name. I would feel the same about any other religion if it was 'Religion xyz' that kept making the news with killing people. Yes, there are Christians who kill doctors....I don't support them, I feel they're crazy and a threat as well....but I bet you can't go one day without hearing about some crazy Muslim killing a journalist, chopping someone's head off, honor killing some innocent girl, stoning a woman to death who was raped, forcing this that and the other on women, etc.....more than any other religious freaks. So that is why, IMO, Islam has the worst reputation out of any of the other religions.

And the whole 'why should you care?' comment is just laughable. I realize it didn't come from you, but still....the pressure to be PC is just ridiculous in the face of such a threat to the rest of the world.

If the man raped and killed his daughter in the NAME OF CHRISTIANITY, and it was running rampant every other day, then YES, I would consider them to be a huge problem as well.

All I'm going to say is that I certainly dont confuse Polictics with Religion. Our fine government does that for me. And you are right, we dont hear about killings from a christian stand point everyday on the news...thanks to the fine media system we have. Someday you are going to realize that everything that is fed through the media is done so for a reason. I'm not going to sit and debate this with you...because as I am sure...you have had your beliefs and opinions your whole life...just as that Turkish man who killed his daughter has. I respect your opinion because it is just that, your opinion. And while I can say that I agree with some of your opinion...I dont agree with you completely. Its completely a shame that people have to characterize people because of their religion. Why cant they just be people. For someone to portray an entire religion because some psychotic screwball recites something from the Quran before blowing himself up, is rediculous. it came from the fact that most non muslims refer to these monsters as muslims most muslims that i know and myself i include freely state these are not muslim they are not christian they have no God ......we are trying to make people aware that by continuing to give them the name of muslim helps them try to justify what they are doing because they are still being linked to the real muslim people by name...this gives them a grandiose feeling of..having millions of muslims on their side.........if people would just refer to these monsters as terrorist at some point in time they will be separated and identified as to what they truly are.........this was not meant as an argument or an insult to you......im just trying to do what we do daily in our life explain to people that dont understand what these monsters truly are.......so many muslim in third world countries are not educated and do not realize that Islam has never condoned killing your wife ur daughter for something that they felt brought shame to the family.......if they are educated and do some atrocity as this then they would have killed no matter what their religion is because we are taught to respect life...

Again, I don't understand where you're misunderstanding what I am saying. I originally posted in this thread in response to what someone said about the Muslim faith getting a bad rap and how people don't associate other religions with the bad things their believers do.

I think there's a difference to being a hypocrite....i.e....being a 'religious' person and doing bad things to other people. Then I believe there are sects of extremists, (surely in every religion) that do bad things in the name of their religion....and those people are threats to others that do not share their beliefs. Again, I'll reiterate....IF everyday, I hear about some Christian/Jewish/Mormon/etc sect beheading a cartoonist because that cartoonist drew an offensive cartoon, or beheaded people on video, or stoned women to death, etc...I WOULD FIND THEM JUST AS OFFENSIVE AND JUST AS MUCH A THREAT to the rest of the world as I find these Muslim extremists.
