Where on earth are you drawing these conclusions from? Like I said, saying it isn't really appropriate, but by no means worthy of the level of outrage coming from Sarah Palin and the far right.

Either one is offended by the use of the word, or one isn't.

And its clear why she won't be making a similarly big deal about Rush, and it has nothing to do with his being a radio host and everything to do with the politics of the people who listen to the show. There's no gain there to her creating a feud with Rush.

I agree with Smoke and Danno, a white house official saying retard deserves a different reaction than a radio talk show host(especially if you find using the word offensive). That said I do think they over reacted to Rahm's use of retard. I dont think it sounds to professional but if people say it I take no issue with it unless they are specifically addressing a retard with intention to hurt his/her feelings.

As I say, either one is offended by the word or one isn't. Surely begs the question as to why Palin took issue with this in the first place - was it because she was genuinely offended by the use of the world, or because it got her some more exposure?

Her selective outrage would indicate the later. However, having dealt with parents of mentally handicapped children, they are quite fierce when it comes to people using that word.
