Hello I've been reading about the I-864 i have to do  and my only worry is this:

this is from the london embassy irs FAQ page

You refer to a number of forms on the I-864; which form do you require?

We require photocopies of your Federal Tax return, form 1040,1040A or 1040EZ. If you filed your tax return electronically you should furnish the form 1722.

ok so do they want actual photocopies of the actual 1040's that I sent to the IRS? I have the forms (i sent to the irs) saved on the computer...should I just print them out? or should I contact the IRS and ask for ''official'' copies of them straight from the IRS???

I called the IRS office in Philly and they said that I will not get anything back from them becuase I will not be getting a return (which i already knew) I was told i might be able to get a confirmation that they received them, but this is not what they want, right?

or should i print out the forms i sent and make photocopies?

since i'm on the tax question.....would anyone know if filing from the UK....do we (us citizen living in the uk) claim the money we made in the UK tax year, which goes form April to April??? or the us one wich goes from Jan to Jan? *gulp* cos the past 3 years i've been claiming the UK year.... thought it made since it's what I made in a year....

Hope someone can help.....thanks for your time....

Yes - copies of the 1040's and W-2's used. (also any applicable 1099's)

Best bet is to get your tax transcripts from the IRS - it's free, and they include everything you need. (ask for the last 3 years worth - most recent back) - the phone number to call for the request is on their site (you can also mail in a request)

Can't answer your tax question - However, my feeling is you would use the US tax year - since you are filing for US taxes - but I get my accountant to do my taxes :)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

It is indeed January to December, the calendar year. (Yes, a total pain in the backside when calculating, but possible! Having your UK payslips available makes this easier.)

Your filing status indicates you are filing for AOS, though I suspect this may not be correct if you (the USC) are currently (?) working in the UK. Can you confirm your filing status? In any event, this thread is going to be buried here in the Bringing Family Members of USCs to America and belongs elsewhere. I'll make a wild stab in the dark and move this to the DCF forum, because I have a sneaky suspicion that you are actually doing Direct Consular Filing (DCF) via the London Consulate.

If I'm wrong, let me know and I will move again! :star:
