But we need to keep in mind, when a big corporation files for bankruptcy, it usually just means they are reorganizing their finances, and not going out of business. The sad thing for stockholders and investors is that their shares are now worthless. Day to day JAL operations of flying will go on as usual, and customers wont notice a difference.

I wasn't all that concerned about the bankruptcy cuz like Hopp said, I'm sure they're filing Chapter 13 and will reorganize. They said on CNN that JAL planned to cut routes and lay off hundreds of employees and that was the part that most concerned me. I hated to even say anything (not like it's not all over the news) because that usually is what breaks their back. The news gets out then the business they so desperately need to turn things around starts to go away...sad spiral :(

Yes, good point, K. As part of a reorganization, less profitable routes will be cut, and the airline will be lesser instead of better. I hope they offer some good promo prices to get people excited again. Never flew JAL. I am Cathay Pacific loyal, but always here good things about JAL.

I almost flew JAL on my last trip and would have if it weren't for a super long layover in Japan. I've heard good things about them too but am a China Air loyalist now :) I'll bet they do offer some great deals in the future though!!
