Ok, we're filing in London, but I have a mate who is going through this with me as well, she too is the USC, with a British Hubby.

Her husband is incredibly weird about the medical. He wants to know exactly what is involved with it. He freaked out when he was told that the panel physicians will request to see his "privates". I wanted to ask whether or not this is true? My friend is worried now that she and her husband might never be able to move to the USA as he's got this weird "knob-complex" as she calls it. She's also not internet savvy, so I'm going to help her set up an account on VJ this week and show her how to use it! :)

I'm sorry if this question is out of line, mods-feel free to amend any of this!

It sounds like it's just a very quick visual check to confirm that applicant is the gender they've written they are, that it's not a woman trying to pass herself off as a man-- if you search for London Medical, you can find a few reviews like this one: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8321

The important part for your friend's husband:

He came back round and checked my reflexes by knocking a hammer on my knees and checked my legs and stomach for anything 'diseasey'. He told me to pull down my pants. I did and he said almost immediately OK that's fine, so I pulled 'em back up!

Moving to the UK sub-forum -- not just a DCF issue. ;)

And from a fellow DCFer (we went through in 2007) -- it is literally a peek down the pants. My husband was more grumpy about how long we had to wait to be seen.

I was a bit nervous about this too, reading all the reviews that they check you 'down there' to check your female or male. But, I had nothing like this happen to me. When I had the xray, the doctor told me he could tell I was female due to this certain bone on the xray. I just assumed that they did this now as part of the check up, instead of visually checking by taking your pants down. I had my medical in december, so I dont know if this is the way they are doing it from now on, or if I just lucked out!

No offence to your friend's husband but he really needs to get over himself! We women go through the indignity of 3 yearly smear tests and whatever else undignified procedures during pregnancy! He should be pleased that he doesn't have to do that!

As the sign at my local nurse says: 'Welcome, please leave your dignity at the door'.

What's more important - being with his SO or not experiencing 10 seconds of embarrassment?

Sorry if I sound mean or harsh but there are much worse things to worry about!
