He's actually got just a bit too big for the dogs food bowl now, so him and his brother can usually be found sleeping in the dogs cage. I think all my animals are a bit mad. The dog eats the cats food and the cats run like mad to get to the dogs food as soon as I put it out.

I've been through this a few times myself (I'm a sucker too  ) and haven't kept the cats separated at first either.

I did hold the "newcomer" a lot and pet it (read that it helps to get your scent on it so the other cats encounter a familiar scent on the stranger). What also helps is to get some toy (like a string with a feather attached to it) and when the cats/kitten are near each other they begin to play at the same time...they begin interacting with each other without realizing it.

Best of luck to your newest lil bundle of joy. :luv:

ok widge ... straight from the kitty's mouth!!

we just rescued a wee little kitty (4wks at the time) she's almost 10 weeks now. we have a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old. we've learned in the past how to make this transition ... which can be smoother or harder for some.

as caroline said ... the BEST bet is to keep them separated until they (your cats) are used to the new kitty. the only way possible is to keep them apart for 2-3 weeks.

once she could eat solid food ... we had stella's little litter box, food, water and toys moved into our children's room. the only time she came out was when our big kitties went outside. when they came in ... she went back in the bedroom. fortunately, for us ... there was no crying because she was used to this.

the older kitties weren't too chufffed at all to have someone new cat in their territory. once stella was out and about ... we feed them together, so they get used to being around each other (because they certainly don't want to miss out on the food!)

another thing to remember is ... don't let the new kitty sleep on or use things that 'belong' to the older kitty. like my oldest sleeps on my pillow and has a special blanket (his happy blanket), those are off limits to stella.

funny as it sounds, but you need to reassure your older cats that you still love them and want them despite of a new addition to your clan!!

she/he sure does have big ears but very cute still.

our kitten didnt do well with the puppy at first either. the pup wanted to play and she wanted to hiss and try to claw her. about 2 weeks went by and they became friends. they are too cute when they play with each other.

the cat is bigger then the dog now but dog is still the boss.

cat knows that if she wants love and attention from me she has to come upstairs (which the dog cant get over the fence). dog is jelous and chases cat away otherwise.
