Just a note to all Swedes... FYI the Swedish consulate in NYC will be closing and Dec 28 will be the last day they're open. I've applied for a new passport (in my married name) there and it's very fast and uncomplicated. From Jan 2010, the Embassy in DC will be the place to go for passports.

And the consulate in LA closed on November 20th. They're sure not making it any easier to get new passports. :angry:

And they are only valid for 5 years, not 10 like they used to! I will definitely try to get my next passport in Sweden. It only takes a few days to do it and is 400kr, not USD 170 like they charged me here and especially since traveling to DC is required next time!

I will definitely try to get my next passport in Sweden. It only takes a few days to do it and is 400kr, not USD 170 like they charged me here and especially since traveling to DC is required next time!

I did that this past summer. It was really easy, and fast. The Police helped me arrange it so that my mom could pick it up. She then mailed it to me, no trip to DC and no fighting Atlanta rush hour traffic between 5 and 7 the one day a week the consulate here is open.
