What you would be better saying instead is something like, "name calling doesn't further the argument". That is true. However, often name calling is used because the argument can't go any further because the person being name called can't understand the argument.

Hasan was mentally unstable, the columbine boys were mentally unstable, the 2 guys who threw grenades into military tents and barracks were mentally unstable, etc etc etc.... The story remains the same.

The bold is a clear mischaracterisation. Is it deliberate or do you really believe that someone has said something approximating that? I'll make it clear for you, he is responsible for his actions, as is every other criminal. The point that is being made is, that given proper care, he would never have done something like this in the first place, either because he would have been placed in a facility where he could be watched or because he was treatable in society and receiving adequate care and medication. That is the lesson that needs to be learned unless you want to continue to read about these tragedies day, after day, after day.

Wow that's incredibly ignorant of the truth. Of course you didn't bother to actually read anyones posts, but managed to pick a few key words out here and there. But thats business as usual for Joe. What I said was that the first release of an account of what happened will be glossed over. I am guessing from your response that you don't understand what that means. To gloss over is to add luster or brightness to something, in this case to highlight the efforts of the men and women of law enforcement involved in this case.
