I also think it's quite normal. When I spent a year away from my husband waiting for my visa, I went through phases of missing him like crazy and not really missing him at all. It depended on how I felt at the time and what else was going on in my life.

However, it took a while for me to get used to living together again because the feeling of distance persisted after my return. It was weird because I had been missing him like crazy just before I left, but when I came back, it just didn't feel right to be so close to him all the time. I think that was like the aftermath of trying to live with the separation because now, three month later, things are fine and I'm back to feeling really close to him.
