Si, man! Very important: Immediately send an e-mail to IVGuayaquil@state.gov that says "This is confirmation that on 17 November 2009, at __ a.m./p.m., I established my fiancee's K-1 interview on (day, date) at (time). The appointment-setter with whom I spoke is named _____. Please acknowledge your receipt of this message."

You do understand that your presence at this interview is mandatory, si man?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The interview is on November 30th. Now why are you saying that the interview is mandatory for me to attend? Each case is different. What proof do you have that I have to be there?

This was my email to the consulate below:

My name is Allek Pastrana and I am a U.S. citizen. I have put in a I129F for my fiance that lives in Quito, Ecuador and it was approved and sent to the Consulate in Guayaquil.

I have just scheduled the appointment for my fiance but the lady who scheduled the appointment was unsure when I asked her "Do I have to be there with my fiance?"

Can you please inform me if I have to be with Rosa during her interview in Guayaquil on November 30th? In the packet it states that it is not necessary for me to attend but I just want to re-verify.

Consulate email reply:

Dear Mr. Pastrana:

Thank you again for contacting us. Your presence is not necessary for the interview. It is an option that you may want to take, the Consulate is open to the petitioners too.

Sincerely

The "proof" is in the numerous instances of applicants being denied on the first interview and being ordered to appear for a second interview with the USC fiance. The consulate will not tell you that the USC is required to appear for the interview, but there is a very high likelihood that a second interview will be required if you do not.

Consider that a high-ranking USCIS official has referred to the Guayaquil consulate staff as "bastards" (see the "K-1 petition information - chat with VSC director" sticky thread in this forum). Take a look at the VJ consulate reviews for Guayaquil and the thread about the place in the Latin America subforum. Then decide if not going is a chance you're willing to take.

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

Stephen is 100% correct.

Allek, do not think or act like a naive idiot!

This consulate LIES to people. They LIE.

Think of it this way: Would you rather attend this interview and have a fighting chance of a visa's being issued, or would you rather ignore history and the real-life experiences of people who lost months of their lives together? If you choose the second option, then why are you a member of VisaJourney, and why on earth does VisaJourney even exist?

Allek,

Congratulations on getting your interview, we did as well. Maybe we will see your fiance there, as well as you, if you decide to go since our interview is the 30th as well. How did you get your interview finally? We had our lawyers call last week and they were told to call the VIS on Tuesday (the 17th) and our congressman also got involved and got an e-mail saying that we could call anytime after the 16th. And you?

Do NOT call me an idiot!

I thought that this forum was for people asking questions and others helping out. I understand experiences of individuals but I also wanted to hear if anyone else had a K1 without having being there.

P.S. Calling anyone an idiot is RUDE!

Just had to call 4 times and email the embassy a couple of times. But I did decide to go down there because my fiance is extremely nervous about going alone. I will arrive in Quito then travel to Guayaquil with her.

PM me your phone number so we can meet up. Is that cool with you?

Indeed it is, which is why I wrote:

so that no one would actually have to call you one. It is good that you are going, whatever the reason (a nervous fiancee is a very good reason). Your decision to go is enhancing your chances of success immeasurably. Keep us thoroughly informed of what happens, including a description of every person whom you interact with there. It's important for everyone to learn whether a blessed change in consular personnel has occurred. Si, man?
