There has previously been some discussion on VJ about copying Skype logs to use as evidence of a bona fide relationship at the interview stage of the visa process. I can't find the previous threads, so I'm starting a new one. Here is one way I've found to make a copy of the call log in .doc format without subscribing to the Skype pay service.

A couple of disclaimers: Firstly, these are directions which pertain to Version 4.1.0.166. It may not work for previous (or future) versions. The good news is that if you upgrade from a previous version, your call log should carry over to the new installation, or at least it did for me. Secondly, this procedure will copy both call and chat records, so you may have to spend some time editing out the chats so that you're left with only the calls. I spent at least a couple of hours separating chats and calls into two separate documents.

Here are the steps:

  1. Log into Skype. Hint: It will be easier if you don't start a call or chat while you're following these procedures.
  2. Display your call history. This can be done one of two ways:
    • Go to the Conversation menu. Select Old Messages, then the time frame which you want to view. I found it easiest to select "From Beginning."
    • If the right-hand side of the Skype window is already showing the Conversations screen, look for the words "Show Messages From:" and select the time frame.
  3. Your history should now be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. It will include chats and calls. Go to the beginning of the history and highlight everything displayed.
  4. Right click and Copy the highlighted text to the clipboard.
  5. Paste into a Word document. (Presumably, this would also work with other such word processing software such as WordPerfect.)
  6. Edit out the parts you don't want in the record, such as calls to or from people other than your spouse/fiancée/family member or very personal chat conversations that you wouldn't want an embassy official to read.

Here is a sample of what the data will look like once pasted into the document:

[10/27/2009 7:03:36 PM] *** Call to Nenita, no answer. ***

[10/27/2009 7:06:25 PM] *** Call to Nenita, duration 12:42. ***

[10/27/2009 7:19:17 PM] *** Call ended ***

Yes, it's a largely manual process, but it works. It's the only way I've found to extract a complete call history without subscribing to the pay service. If anyone knows of a better way, please post it. I know there are a lot of us here using Skype on a regular basis.

I found and have used a program called SkypeCall Exporter. It works with all versions including Skype 4 and newer. It requires you to signin to skype and when you open the call exporter, skype will pop up a box wanting to be sure you want to run the utility. also you have to click the button to ok the program use on the skype default page too. This is a real good program and pulls ALL the phone calls you have made. Data includes time of call to Whom and duration plus many other items you may want.

You can just print the complete data file or if you are more creative move date into excel and make it look like you want. This saved me DAYS of hard work. The web page that talks about it it is linked here http://www.amperordirect.com/pc/r-skype-vo...e-call-log.html Or you can just download the utility at http://www.amperordirect.com/pc/r-skype-vo...e-call-log.html . Hope all is easier for everyone else Now
