Wearing a face mask while flying?

Is it now advised to wear a face mask while flying to foreign countries? I'm not up on all the sicknesses going around, but between the N1N1 virus and all the others, is it best to wear some sort of face mask nowadays aboard the aircraft, or am I being over cautious? I was intending on taking airborne, but what else is recommended?

You need one just in case. You don't have to wear it right away. I just got back from California and I was so happy I have one. There's this guy who keeps on coughing. I don't care if it's not H1N1 virus but I offered him the mask. Everybody were so thankful. The guy was thankful too.

A face mask will not protect you from viral infection, they are good for the one that is coughing to help stop mist. The best protection is to take hand sanitizer and use it often like after you touch restroom door handles etc. Most viruses are transfered by you touching infected areas and then touching your eyes mouth or nose.

From what I understand washing your hands frequently is more effective than wearing a face mask.

In Japan, face mask is normally worn by people who have cold or cough as a courtesy to those people around him/her.

I would recommend that you bring a facemask to give to those people who are coughing.

If you are concern about H1N1, the best method is to boost your immune system.

H1N1 is airborne contagious up to 30ft. I'm certain wearing a good quality mask is helpful. It would be even better if everyone on plane wore one. I just connot imagine wearing one for a 13 hour flight! In light of all the facts available to us the vaccine is a good idea if you can get it.

You can always use one of those red tape around you.....or wear one of these sign...I am sure it keep them away

Yes, it can. THe fact is, the mask provides a warm, moist environment for germs and virus to multiply. Unless the mask has a perfect seal around the face, it is mostly a feel-good effect, and not medically preventive. Peace.
