Well, it's obviously a topic that we can all relate to! My wife and I have had many visits back and forth over the past year+, but in all the in-between times, what sorts of things do you and your significant others do?

Some of the things my wife and I do are...

-Watch movies together. We both rent the same DVD and we sync them up by saying, "Okay, press plaaaay...NOW!" Then pause/play, pause/play until I can hear through the phone that they're in sync. We've watched at least 50 movies this way, not to mention countless TV series. It is probably our main on-the-phone pastime.

-Read a novel together. We both get the same book, and take turns reading aloud to one another.

-Do crosswords over the phone. We don't do this much anymore (I'm a bigger crossword fan than she is), but it's great fun.

-Online games. We used to play Scrabble but after she started to get annoyed by how often I was beating her, we switched to Yahtzee...a game we're quite even at!

Any others? Keep it clean, folks...

We mostly play EQ2 together online.

We used to read books aloud to eachother, but I found that to be slow and hard to do so we will read the same book and discuss it. Currently we're both reading different series.

We have used web cam but I am not as crazy about it as he is because I am always like, "OMG my hair is a mess!" or "Do I really look that fat?!?!?!"

We have watched youtube videos, but never whole entire movies or TV shows together- you must have a really good long distance plan if you do that over the phone . . .

I find the long distance thing to be really hard so we have managed to never go more than 2 months without seeing each other, which is pretty good considering I live in Florida. I have kids and work full time so it is hard to budget time to do things with him. He used to actually have a schedule he made on Excel of his work, classes, and "Suzanne Time" where we would do something together. lol

We are in contact pretty much all the time, every day and I keep him posted as to where I am and what I'll be doing just in case something happens to me. Exchange funny things we've read or seen that day, we used to play Cribbage on line but haven't for awhile. But just basically chat all through out the day and such. I'm much more chatty than he is though! :D

I think that's pretty much it. It's funny hearing/reading all this but it just goes to show that if two people are compatible and have the gumption for it, you can make it work. But, I will also reiterate that living in fairly close proximity makes it easier to deal too -- I'm not sure if I could go months and months or even a year without seeing him -- I always find that when we see each other again, it's such feeling of relief.

you know?

Vonage and Skype are EXCELLENT long distance providers.

But seriously, we just use the video call built into MSN.

YOu guys want to hear something odd? I am not a phone person at all -- in fact I hate it! I used to call him a lot more often but since we're both not very into the telephone, we rarely make calls. I will once in awhile but yeah, anyone else find that?

I find the phone has always made me feel a little awkward!

I'm very fortunate that I've got a phenomenal phone plan! I have a bundle package of internet / local / long distance that's only $67 per month. It's digital phone too, so I don't need to deal with Telus or any of those megacorporate providers. My wife and I talk every day. Literally not a day has gone by since our relationship started nearly two years ago that we have not spoken on the phone. It's funny -- last week I printed out a list of phone calls for "proof of relationship" when my interview comes around...and it was eleven pages long for three months!

It's a shame that my wife doesn't play cribbage. I used to be a tournament director a number of years back at an online cribbage site. I used to be VERY into the game!

Oddly enough, my wife and I have never used a webcam link. Phone and email has always been enough...but you're SO right, Lgg...there's nothing like a visit to get your heart (and libido) racing!

While apart, we play online games (YM messenger has free games like its version of scrabbles and pool, then we used to also play webboggle). Before he was began studying for the CPA, he would call during lunch so we can update each other mid-day. Now he cant do that so we just talk after work and at night.

I wish I knew about Skype (KnJ just explained it to me yesterday!!!) because we spent a lot of $$$ for phone cards. Neither he nor I are into talking on the phone -- in fact I hate picking up the phone, but lo and behold, we can spend as much as 2 hours on the phone, especially when we're "planning" even at long distance.

And this is mostly me as hes had a tougher time with the long distance and all the stress for the CPA, but I find a lot of pleasure making him cards or sending him care packages and that gives me something to do even for just a few minutes. I think he spends a lot of time looking at all the holidays in the US so he can fly over to me

This may sound really sad but a lot of the times we both feel as though we are in some form of suspended animation up until we see each other and then we go all out and eat out every night and watch every movie showing in the cinema to make up for loss time! THAT would be something we cant do when we are together in a few weeks, I bet :P

Finally married... and still married... ;)

We watch movies/animes just like you do...annnnnd GO! lol. It never works that we get it at exactly the same time. We play wow together and sometimes silly little steam games. We are on skype probably about 5-6 hours a night, 13 hours on days he has off...we keep it on even if we aren't paying attention to each other or if one of us is away from the computer. We tend to do our own things quite often but having skype the way we do its kind of like living in the same house, only not.

You said it!

I remember when we were getting married -- He and I both were stressed like CRAZY! I thought i was going to blow a gasket but as soon as he pulled up at my house in the rental car and we saw each other it was like, Oh ####### yah, this ALL so worth it...

I feel like that every single time I see him.

Mush-mush-mushedy-mush...

God, I am having some sort of emotional surge today, folks...

Hey, it's fine. Honestly. I have my days where I feel all lonely and clingy etc. and I miss her horribly. And vice versa. But usually we can just steel ourselves to the process and take what we can get.

Nothing beats being together though. I've always been comfortable in my own skin, but never in the same way as I feel when I'm with her.

I have a decent long distance phone plan through Rogers....I pay $20 a month and it gives me unlimited long distance to Can and the US, but neither of us is much of a phone person either. We usually chat on yahoo. Sometimes we play pool or the other games on there. He recently ordered the NHL package on-line so he can watch hockey games with me, which is so sweet since he is not really a hockey fan, but he is trying!!! We will look at the movie listings and find one that is playing at similar times and go to the movies, then come back and talk about it. We are actually pretty lucky since we do get to see each other at least once a month. And now that we are getting closer to getting in interview *fingers crossed* we have started with some wedding plans. We both want to have only one wedding with family and close friends (not a quick legal wedding with the 2 of us to start AOS then a ceremony at a later date), so there is a fair bit that we need to get organized!! We do talk pretty much every day except when he is out in the field on his 24+hr shifts a couple times a week. I use that time to get all my cleaning/errands/laundry etc done, so we have uninterrupted time together when he is home
