Hi everybody-

I hope everyone is doing well and is finding success in bringing their spouse/fiance over to the US. I have a couple of questions I hope can be answered here. My fiance is from Kamloops, Canada and is plannign to move to the US. We received approval of our k1 application and are now beginning the process of getting the correct medical form together and what not. I am wondering if someone can detail what we need to do from here so we can be prepared for her interview.

- What forms do we need to fill out? Can you provide links for the appropriate forms?

- Given I am American, what forms/prep do I need to have done?

- What does my Canadian fiance need to bring to her interview?

- How long is it before she is eligible to come into the States to be married?

If you can assist, I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Hi Surfndan,

If your petition is approved it should be on it`s way to the consulate in Vancouver. Once the consulate receives the approved petition it will mail your fiance what we call Packet 3. It has all the information she needs. She will fill out the forms the request and fax it in (I think that`s how it works in Vancouver). She will then have to get all the documents the consulate needs (long form BC, criminal check... it`s all listed in the packet). They will then assign her an interview date. In Vancouver you can do the medical the day of the interview or the day after I believe. After the interview she has 6 months to move to the US. Once moved, you will have 90 days to get married and file for your Adjustment of Status.

If you need anything else, don`t be shy to ask.

Congratulations on your approval!!

Peachy covered everything here for you. A letter will be sent shortly to her explaining what she will need. If she doesn't have a long form birth cert. let her know to go get one as I don't know how long it will take to come in. It will list the doctors name in Vancouver in which she'll have her medical, and the website. She needs to check out what the US regulations are for so she can get better prepared. The fee for the medical will be $350 (Canadian) and the visa is $131 US. It will explain in her letter how to deposit that into a Bank of Nova Scotia branch.

Your part is to send her the copy of the packet for the 129-F as well as the affidavit of support, to prove she won't be a public charge. That's the I-134. Make sure your familiar with it so you can get the supporting documents. If you need a co-sponsor, you both will fill one out.

Let her know that the medical, and interview is very easy as long as your prepared. Here she will need proof of relationship as well. Bring lots of pictures of the two of you, emails, and anything to do with your upcoming wedding. Have a date in mind of when you'll get married!! Trust me, I think it goes over a little better. Oh, and you don't need a "big" wedding planned, just a date. But if you are planning an actual wedding ( like we did, with guests, etc) bring the proof of that.

It's going to be busy over the next little while for the two of you. And it will go fast. If you're able to be there with her for the interview that would be great, however, if not, she'll be fine. The people at the consulate are very nice.

Let us know how things are going!

Congratulations on your K-1 approval! It won't be long now. Vancouver Consulate is MUCH faster than Montreal, so there is a good chance you'll be having an interview fairly quickly! The only thing I'll add is that you will have to have a case number from Vancouver, either the Package 3 letter (it's not really a "package"), or an email from them, to book the medical, and I think bring a copy of the letter or email to the medical appointment.

There should as well be a copy of what Package 3 looks like, and the list of requirements here on the Canada Wiki page:
