I am thinking of doing that too when I have AOS interview, go to Philippine consulate in Chicago. But it seems I will skip interview, so I might not be able report my marriage soon. I guess, there's no exact timeline to report marriage.

Report of Marriage must be filed in order to amend a Philippine passport to show the married name. We did the Report of Marriage and Passport amendment after we got married and before we filed for AOS. That way, we had legal documentation showing why my wife changed her middle name from her mother's maiden name to her father's last name.

If you don't report the marriage within 12 months, you will have to also complete a notorized affidavit of delayed registration and give a reason for the delay.

i filed mine this june 2009 and we've been married since feb. 2007 lol... im not sure if thats the latest rule regarding "affidavit of delayed registration" since i never done it when i reported mine (to think its more than 2 yrs after i reported my marriage)... anyways i havent amend my passport yet, you can either report your marriage and amend your passport at the same time, or just report it. for me, perhaps i'll just wait till my passport expires then i can renew it in 2011...

good luck!!!

Citizenship N-400

4/15/2010- sent my N-400 via fedex overnight

4/16/2010- signed and delivered

We did the ROM at the Chicago consulate in September 2009 (We were married in Dec 2005) and the affidavit was required. I had previously downloaded the instructions for the ROM and it wasn't a requirement, but by the time we were ready to submit it and I downloaded a new instruction page, the instructions had changed. I'm not sure when it started.

When you passport has expired and you want to go back to the Philippines for a much needed break or R & R and you haven't acquired your American citizenship, it is indeed necessary to report your marriage to the Philippine Consulate.

I took Claudeth to the Filipino consulate to get her passport renewed and also to get her name changed to her married name. The consulate took care of doing all the necessary updates with the agency in the RP that records such things. What is it, the NSO or something? Anyway, you will need all your documentation (make sure you have copies of everything) you did for the visa plus your marriage certificate issued from the recording agency in the county you live in and any final divorce papers that the USC might have had.
