Hi guys!

one short question. In Germany it is a obligation to do military services for 9 month after high school. Instead of this everyone has the opportunity to do social services instead. I did this.

For the visa interview it is necessary to bring military records. It does not say anything about social services. So I don't need to bring anything? Just want to double check.

No, if you don't have military service records, there is nothing to bring with you. Good luck!

I will disagree with this. Since Germany has compulsary military service (like Ukraine) you should bring whatever is necessary to show you did your community service in lieu of military service, if you are of the affected age.

Our son (18) is also subject to compulsary military service in Ukraine, he has a student deferrment until 2013. We brought his papers showing he registered for military service as required by law and the results of his appeal for a student deferrment. This was required by the consualte in Kiev as they do not wish to be issuing visas to the US to "draft dodgers" so to speak. The consulates have to comply with the laws of the country they operate in also, they cannot be used as an "escape hatch" for criminals, draft dodgers and child snatchers, that is why they have these requirements.

It really is nothing more than translating and giving copies of documents you should already have and I would suggest you do it. You can also write (email) the consulate and ask, that is what I did as I was not sure if our son had "military papers" or not since he has never been in the military. If you have "aged out" ( I do not know the age range in Germany) then it is not an issue. In Ukraine ALL males must serve two years in the military sometime between age 18-25. Any male in Ukraine between the ages of 18-25 applying for a visa to the US must show his military status.
