Correct. The employer pays for the workman's comp carrier, which is in effect an insurance company. I have never dealt with anything but HMO's (or cash), and this was my first experience in a long time dealing with a third party carrier. It sucked big bananas. I hold no torch for insurance companies, as much as I deal with them through my work/bussiness all the time, and each one is it's own perculiar subspecies.

Well, I think that worker's comp is whole animal by itself where liability comes into play. They're looking out for the best interest of the employer, not the employee.

They were actually pretty friendly to deal with, but yes, they were doing whatever they could to limit their liability. But the hospital, and the rest along the way, always complained about the insurance company, while they padded the bill every way possible. I finally told Marie to deal directly with the comp carrier, and then, things moved along quickly. But, even the doctor that finally treated her was being difficult with releases and forms, and signed guarantees. The shot took like two minutes, and we hassled over paperwork to make sure nobody got screwed for much longer than that. Even the Army was not that screwed up with paperwork, and that is saying something. :P

Some employers have contracts with health care facilities - that probably would have saved you a lot of the headache. It's not too different from what you have deal with when another driver hits your vehicle and is at fault.

35,000 doctors in Great Britain tried to stop the NHS six months before it was to go full service because they were afraid they'd loose money.

And boy did they get f*cked!

The minimum and maximum of the pay range for salaried GPs in 2009 are £53,249 and £80,354 respectively.

That's about what a dumb nurse makes here.

Seriously Mark - I don't believe people who become doctors go into the profession to become filthy rich. I had this conversation at work the other day with some of the folks way higher up the food chain. There was a general consensus that (aside from having a desire to heal) people become doctors for the prestige of the credential.

Professional credential snobbery, if you will.

What is he supposed to say, the guy is a gutless, bumbling, clueless illiterate wonder less jack a$$! If Gates wants to keep his job he is going to suck Ovomit's a$$ and keep saying prescripted drivel like that to CNN, and your point is with this post.... If you do not suck Ovomit's A$$ you do not keep your job. Thanks, we already knew that one.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who was a prominent member of former President George W. Bush's Cabinet, told CNN that he is enjoying working for Bush's Democratic successor.

...

"He is very analytical," Gates told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King. "He is very deliberate about the way he goes through things. He wants to understand everything. He delves very deeply into these issues."

Gates, who previously worked for 27 years in the CIA under six presidents, was the first defense secretary to be asked to remain in office by a newly-elected president when Obama kept him on.

So the "35,000 doctors in Great Britain who tried to stop the NHS six months before it was to go

full service because they were afraid they'd lose money" didn't really care about the money?

Of course they did. They eventually realized that the doctors who did sign on to the NHS rolls were going to have all the patients. So it was money that brought them around eventually.

Oh - I'd hate to see you run any health facility without 'dumb nurses'.
