NOA2 approved...now what?

I posted this topic in the K-1 forum, but now I realize this forum is probably more appropriate....

I just called my fiancee in Indonesia and told her that our NOA2 was approved already. I think we're both still in shock it happened so quickly. I was just telling her this morning it would probably be at least 3 weeks before we got our NOA2 approved.

Anyway, I had a couple of questions about Jakarta Embassy. We would like to get the Police Report and Medical Exam finished ASAP.

1. Can she go to the embassy now and pick up package 3 or do I have to get a case # from NVC first?

2. When she goes for the interview, do her and her son's birth certificate have to be translated? I thought I read on the embassy website that she could bring Indonesian documents. But I think she will still need translated documents for entering the USA, right?

3. I read she needs 2 photos for the medical exam and 2 for the interview. Is this correct...4 total? Also, will her son need photos?

As always, your advice and opinions are greatly appreciated...

Rick

Hi Rick,

It's me redcherry_123...Congrats for your NOA2 aka approval. I'm happy to hear that from you. What I said...VSC is very speedy and relaxed... It's quite unbelievable too sometimes, as other Indonesian fiance(e) experience a very long process. Anyway, it may deal with luck too:)

I gladly help you with my experiences with the US Embassy in Jakarta.

The following is my answer to your questions:

1. You have to know NVC number, so better you wait until you receive NVC letter. Because your fiancee can call the US Embassy in Jakarta and ask if she can pick up packet 3. I suggest you to call first...since the consular officer little make a fuss about it. I think you will receive the NVC letter within a week or may be a little longer after NOA2. In my case, my fiance received NVC letter earlier before NOA2. It's pretty unsual.

2. I suggest you to translate the documents like birth certificate after you receive PACKET 3 from the US Embassy since in the packet, it's described whichj sworn translators they appoint. Don't translate the birth certifcate documents especially with any translator, they will not receive. The point is that better to wait for the packet 3. Everything is clearly described there. Don't take a rush in this process. Like my experience, I translate documents with any translator, but when I received the packet. They only agree with their appointed translator, so I had to spend more money on this. I suggest you to have more original duplicate of birth certificate of English translation [your fiancee + her child]. You will certainly use it for AOS + other processing too.

3. Rick, about the number of photos, it's also described in the packet or forms. Regulation changes from time to time, but may be the same...with my experience. Yes, for medical exam, the medical clinic will require 2 photos [at that time the clinic require 3/4 style of photo - old style of USCIS ...strange!!] AND for interview, it also requires 2 photos. So it's totally 4 altogether. I suggest you your fiancee make a call to the clinic about what requirements they need for medical exam, specially about the photo sytle.

Hope this helps your case. May I know your e-mail add [only if you don't mind],,,who knows I can ask you more questions later about your AOS,,,yours can be quicker with mine. Thank you also.

Addition to answer your question #3. So long as your fiancee's son goes with her to enter the US or apply the visa. Her son needs photos too. I'm not sure if her son needs medical exam too, so better she calls and asks about this at the same time when she makes a call when to pick up her Packet 3. Better to make a list of questions when you call the embassy...it's very busy and pretty hard to speak directly to the consular officer.

Good Luck.
