Police certificate? confused!!!

Hi everybody, I am a new member of this wonderful forum, this is the place that I was looking for, My Fiancee just sent the petition to Nebraska Service Center, people says its a kind a slow:( I am living in Turkey and approx. waiting period is from 6 to 8 months, but I am getting prepare myself for 1 year.

Dear Friends, I have a question about police certificate, I will need obtain a police certificate from Canada but they say its a police ''clearance'' certificate, would someone please inform me whats the differnce between police certificate and police clearance certificate? As I think that a clearance means that the person mentioned on the certificate dont have a criminal record or something like that, but Embassy requires that police certificate must cover entire period of residence and must cover all arrests, reason for arrests..etc

wellcome to the forum, its realy a very good place to be! i dont know what should be the diffrence between police clearance cert. and police cert. i think its all the same. they just have diffrent names. in switzerland its called "excerpt from the swiss criminal record", in kenya its called " certificate of good conduct ". they all just say, that u are not registred in the criminal record. it will cover anyway the entire time u stayed in this country. thats the reason the record shouldnt be older then 6 month.

by the way, i just came back from turkey 2 weeks ago, whent there with my fiance.. nice place!

5/30/2006 e mail from CSC: petition was requested for review!! ????

5/31/2006 another e mail reply: petition was approved but has not been fowarded yet

6/15/2006 finally!!!! Petition received by NVC!

6/16/2006 left NVC

6/22/2006 US Embassy in Bern, Swiss rec'd petition

6/28/2006 rec'd paket 3

6/29/2006 sent paket 3 back

7/13/2006 got interview date!!

7/27/2006 Interview! APPROVED!!!!! YEAH!

9/18/2006 Planed flight to Raleigh/ NC........

11/18/2006 WEDDING DAY!

As goldie said each country calls it something different. Each country also has different procedures and requirements for obtaining them. You will need to contact the Canadian embassy and let them tell you how to obtain one.

Police certificates/checks are good for one year from time of issue unless the form from that country states it is good for a lesser amount of time.

My Fiancee had to obtain one from UK and Australia, we got them early as they can take some time to receive.

5 Aug 06 NOA2 after 143 days in CSC purgatory

20 Oct 06 Interview Date

16 Feb 07 Denial Letter received

12 Mar 07 Motion to reconsider submitted

9 May 08 Lisa and Married in United Kingdom

23 May 08 I-130 filed

Oct 08 NOA-2 received

May 7 09 Lisa's Interview I 601 filed

29 Jul 09 I-601 waiver approved

18 Aug 09 Passport to London Embassy

20 Aug 09 Tickets purchased for 10 Sep 09

Here's a link on how to apply for a police certificate from the RCMP:

As other have said, different countries have different names for this certificate. For my police certificate, I went to the RCMP.
