In another thread Marc was hating on Canada's health care, but the fact in terms of Life expectancy Canada is ranked 6th in the world, with Australia being 5fth. Australia has a public NHS and private option. Whereas, US is ranked 35th. So what does that tell us about which system works.

It tells us the American system is more efficient. Keeping people alive beyond their productive years is not very efficient.

The problem with allowing insurance companies to sell across state lines is that then they'd all incorporate in states with weak insurance regulations. This would harm consumers. If the bill that comes out of the House and Senate address the lack of uniformity in insurance regulations from state to state, that would be a good idea.

While people like Matt may disagree, stuff like this is why there is a need for federal regulation. Credit cards did this exactly the same thing. Some genius decided to open the market to them, to serve the country. Rather than federally mandate rules and regulation, they allowed them to pick and choose and operate in states that have laws in their favor. Dakota's Delawares etc.
