hi guys, i arrived here in US last August 1 on K1 visa...after 3 weeks we got married. I already have my marriage certificate and already went to SS to update my name since I'm now married but I can't get a California I.D as they told me they need my greencard to have cali I.D. My question is , what should I do now that I'm married, should we apply for adjustment of status , how long does it take to have an approval. Also , I want to work because I'm getting bored here now , is it possible for me to work while waiting for my adjusment,by the way I already have my SSN.

Hope you can help me on this.

Thank you so much.

Read the guides at the top of the page. Specifically on how to carry out AOS from K1.

Reading these guides is the first step to understanding what you should do. Approval times vary for a greencard. At the top of the page click the processing times button. This will give you a very general idea of how much of a wait you are in for, for both your GC and your EAD.

The sooner you apply for your AOS (and employment authorization as part of this) the sooner you can work. You must wait until you have received your EAD before working. Any work you carry out before receiving employment authorization is illegal and can put your future status as a permanent resident in this country at risk.

You have a lot of reading to do. Visa Journey members can help with any specific questions you have to do with adjustment of status, but is essential that you do your homework by getting to grips with the paperwork and evidence you need to submit.

RE: Driving license in California. Many members of VJ have successfully obtained a driving license by producing their EAD as evidence. What the authorities in California are looking for is official identification and some proof of settlement in this country. The EAD will fulfill these requirements.

Best of luck to you.

hi. your status says AOS pending...have you or have you not applied for AOS? if you have, you should have included application for EAD, if you have but didn't include EAD you have to apply for it separately now if you want to be able to work before your AOS is approved. otherwise, wait for your AOS approval. your GC is all you'll need then to be able to work.
