Good Morning Everyone

I have a quick question for anyone who may have heard of this or know any info on it.

In december of 2007 after i graduated college for Dental Assistant, i went to India on vacation from Dec 2007 till Feb 22nd 2008.

after returning home i decided i wanted to study in India, so in June or 2008 i moved back and started a first year of pre-med. i met my finacee (mani ) at college at end of August 2008. we became very close and knew we had a great futher together, I was allowed by my college and AIU Association of India Universities to study with my tourist visa, but i had to return home after my six months in order to return to india. so October 21st i left india , I returned November 4th and moved in with my fiancee (manis) elder sister, as mani and i grew closer and closer we had already talked about marriage in the futher. on March 21st 2009, manis family gave us a huge engagment/ ring ceromony. with all his family members. I returned to USA in April and started our process for K-1 visa.

my question is will there be a problem since i studied under a tourist ivsa instead of student visa? From the college mani and i attended we have written statments from our principle and attendence records and the copies of papeers saying it was ok for me to study.

Thanks Tasha and Mani

Wow - I find it suprising the university signed off on you studying on a tourist visa; for the record it isn't their call on allowing you to study under a tourist visa that's more an MHA issue - did they ask you to register with the FRRO at all? You need to be super careful with respect to the 180 day rule or you'll be begging, pleading, and paying for an exit visa.

You may want to think about switching over to a student visa the next time you're in the US. Then again, given you've already flouted Indian visa laws, the Indian Embassy may not sign off on it [namely how could you be a 2nd yr student without having been a 1st yr student - a little research and TADA they know you were on a tourist visa]. [Total aside, the Indian embassies are getting more and more difficult to deal with - I know of a lot of people getting denied business and employment visas - not sure if it's a political backlash of some sort]. Also, I know people who've had a 5 or 10 year tourist visa and repeatedly left and entered who finally got pulled aside at the airport and given the third degree about what they were doing because it's painfully obvious you're living there when you've been staying in India 350 days out of a 365 day year.

Anyway, to your question at hand, the Indian Visa is an India issue. I highly doubt it will come up and having the university mention that they were aware and agreed to it may be a good thing. They will be much more concerned with your Indian fiancee and whether she's had a visa to the US and overstayed or had any other visa issues with other countries [i think that's a question on one of the forms - but it would be for her, not you].

Hi Catknit!

they did not have me sign off for FRRO, what is a FRRO? n also MHA? I did follow the

6month visa limit in India, i came home to usa for 15 days end of october. then flew back on November 4th.

The college told my that after i complete my first year that i should return to the usa and get my student visa. Classes had started july 21st n they said i could use my tourist visa for the remaining year. but since i met Mani (finace) i decided to put studies aside and soon as he can get his visa i would comtinue studies maybe in usa.

Mani has never had a visa for any other country he has not traveled outside on India.
