Just want to report how the interview was at Seattle.

Wait time: We got to the place half hour before our interview at 9am and was called in at or slightly before 9am.

My status was from F1.

Questions asked: The interviewer was friendly. In the beginning, he asked my birthdate and our current address while checking over the application we sent.

He asked me,"which school did you go to while on F1?" "what major?"

He asked my USC husband, "what do you do for work?"

He didn't ask us about our relationship, but asked where we did our wedding ceremony and if we've gone to honeymoon or not.

Everything was easy UNTIL we got to pg3 of I-485, the questions regarding crimes. My answer to those questions were all NO, but he asked me to explain the meaning of the words in the questions. Like, "explain what executing genocide means" "what does deporting mean?" I answered all of his questions but had hard time explaining genocide. I bet he knew I didn't commit those crimes, but wanted to see if I clearly understood those words. (Thanks.)

Documents he checked: Then he asked for any documents we brought. He just saw our joint bank statement and utility bill and laughed because the bill was from Waste Connection. He said people have hard time taking off their name from Waste Connection bills when they decide to get divorced. (I guessed maybe he went thru that) We also showed some pictures of us with our family and relatives.

Approved: We were given a paper saying we were approved, and then he explained briefly about the 2 year conditional green card. He asked me if I was interested in getting a US citizenship later, so I said, "No, I won't apply for US citizenship" but he continued explaining how to apply for it anyway...

That was it. He said to expect the green card to be mailed in 2 weeks.

Thank you for this helpful forum, and best of luck to all of you preparing for the AOS process and interview. It took us only 3 months and a week to get approved for the green card since we sent our AOS application packet.

I hope, in time, you will reconsider your choice to not apply for citizenship.

If you are going to live here you might as well be involved in all aspects of being here. You will not be able to vote or hold an elected office until you are a citizen.

You may want to become involved in politics at some point and maybe even run for office. Plus you would no longer need to keep applying for a renewed Green Card with its fees and such...

Just my thoughts... Good Luck to you, no matter how you choose to go in life!

heta...

Staying a Japanese citizen and having a US green card seems like a perfectly good option.

If I wasn't able to have dual citizenship I wouldn't give up my British citizenship. Luckily, I get the option... still got a year to think about it!

I have 2 British friends, both have lived here over 30 years, neither have citizenship... both just GC holders.

It sounds like your interview went very well..... congratulations!!! :)

Old and Grumpy....But an American Citizen!!!
