Old hippies now rally for Medicare

Old ladies, old men, veterans, gray grannies. Who else would fight so fiercely over Medicare?

In earlier years some of these very men doubtless were long-haired, bearded “hippies” – dirty, doped, profane and despised. The women back then had burned their bras, gone for “free love” (which was not free at all), got tattoos, smoked pot and went barefoot.

And they demonstrated. Broke up meetings. Blocked streets. Burned tires, automobiles, buildings, shut down colleges, spat on soldiers returning from the duty of dealing death in Vietnam.

These were the “flower children”. They dropped acid and dropped out, and – yes – dropped their pants.

Many of us understand. We were there, though if not in the streets, at least in the offices, doing time for a paycheck. We had a college education, a steady job, a wife, kids, a mortgage and a used car. We listened to the “folk” songs of the era, grew a little more hair than our bosses would have preferred, and drank some occasional whiskey. But we never hated America, in fact, may have hated those who did, and we wished they would shut up, sit down, and let everybody else have a life.

But somehow there’s no recollection of Dan Rather, David Brinkley, Uncle Walter, or Howdy Doody putting the left-wing kids down, scorching them with bad press, or chastising them for organized rowdiness. But there are, for many of us, indelible images of hippies, who burned flags, cursed their own country, took trips to Canada until the shooting ended, and stayed stoned for a decade or two, seemed to be the darlings of the “mainstream media”.

And why not? They were birds of a feather. Liberals. Some socialists, some communists, all anti-establishment. They loved Fidel, Che, and even Stalin. The enemy was Barry Goldwater, Jesse Helms, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan.

Funny how things have changed. The hippies have all growed up. They did their tours with the PTA, the 4-H Club and the country club. Time has melted much of the mutual distrust, but their politics seem still unsavory, because many of the people they support and vote for are flat ruining America. You know who these people are. They are the “leaders” who vote for raising taxes, making God unconstitutional, putting abortions on the federal tab, making jails more fun, gutting the military, dismantling the free enterprise system, and giving away the store to illegal aliens who are really just gate-crashers.

See that list? When is the last time you heard Wolfe Blitzer, Katie Couric, Keith Olbermann or Roseanne get on a soapbox and rail against those people with their shop-worn, anti-American, sometimes atheistic agenda?

So when selfish, cynical, shallow, self-important power politicians snidely intone that the opponents of Obamacare are a part of an organized “conspiracy”, and are hyped up on conservative radio mixed with two parts hatred and a dash of bigotry, they should be ashamed.

And they should be called what they truly are – liberal, cruel, partisan, duplicitous Democrats!

Look, just leave the townhalls alone. Let the politicians see the wrath of the average American people. Many of these fat and sassy “public servants” appear to have never even seen, talked with, understood or had to personally listen to the concerns or needs of the citizens in the American heartland. No wonder these liberal bozos are surprised. Who needs to talk to constituents (whatever they are) when you have a staff to run interference and do the dirty work for you?

Are we out here in the hinterlands miffed about Washington’s disdain for Medicare? Are we shocked and dismayed to learn that many of our elected lamebrains in Congress have never even read the Obamacare legislation? Do we fear that the health care system – yes, with its flaws – is the envy of the world but may be trampled underfoot by callous and uncaring big shots who have the vote but not the conscience to respect it?

Oh, yeah! So do you hear us? We may be rickety, unsteady, but the mind and heart are strong if the arthritic frame is weak. We are going to pack the townhall meetings, we are going to raise our voices, and we are going to put such heat on these pampered patooties that they may wonder what fury they have unleashed!

Why are we going to do this? Because this is America and we are Americans. The real Americans. That’s why. Now get out of our way.

We were there,

......

Speak for yourself....I wasn't there.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

The real Americans. That’s why. Now get out of our way.

0nly if they are First N8tion hippies.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
