I don't really see the big distinction between what a politician says and what a commentator does. Seems to me that some arguments are unjustifiable no matter who says them.

I made the same argument & it fell on deaf ears, pretty much because the audience were all from the VJ Right (i.e. making fun of Pelosi is fun but please don't pick on Limbaugh). In fact I also mentioned that if a VJ poster (who is neither a politician nor a commentator) makes an outrageous comment there is backlash, but of course they glossed over that as well.

I don't think the comment in the OP is outrageous - its just an example of a politician being two-faced and adopting viewpoints that fit their agenda. That's actually pretty typical of what goes on generally.

Generally speaking, its dishonest for any politician to claim ownership of who or what is deemed "patriotic".

People here can't get enough of their stereotypes - and the media reflects that to a large extent: simplistic and adversarial.

Duh! Vey simple. A politician can have a huge affect on laws and policy, ect, with the vote. They work for the citizens and must be held to a different standard. A private citizen does not have the power to vote on bill in congress nor do they work for the citizens. They are free to do whatever they please.

Arguments are arguments though. It isn't really important whether those arguments are made by people who "matter".

They can be evaluated on their own terms.

Politicians are pundits in training. Every now and then, a pundit runs for political office, so that would make one think they are interchangable.

I made my point crystal clear... Pelosi's remarks were hypocritical but at the same time most of the people denouncing her remarks were also being hypocritical because they are dead silent or even condone the same sort of BS when it comes from the right. Joseph & Ana is also being a hypocrite, plain & simple.
