Hi,

This is my first post on this forum, so please forgive me if this question has been asked before. My wife is in Ahmedabad, India. We had a court marriage last year in Nov 2008. I filed all the necessary papers to bring her here on CR1 visa. Now, we didn't have a traditional marriage because of lack of time. We just had an engagement and had a court marriage. Now, for the interview, they are asking for marriage pictures, wedding invitation, etc. Is that really required? I do have records of emails, call details. Would that be sufficient? My wife in India, asked some visa agent and he said that our pictures won't be sufficient because of some Hindu marriage law. Is that true? We are freaking out about this. Did anyone have this situation for the Mumbai interview? My wife's interview is on Aug 31, 2009.

Thanks for your help.

I am wondering why you didn't take even 1 or 2 pictures, yes pictures are required by the CO sometimes. If you don't have it, explain to the CO that you don't have them because of lack of time while you were there.

I do have pictures of the engagement ceremony. Because we didn't have a Hindu traditional wedding, obviously I don't have the pictures for them! Will the engagement ceremony pictures work?

Thanks for your help.

it is very difficult to take pictures in the court. i could only take it outside and then was told to put it away. but we have plenty of other pics of our actual ceremony. maybe you could explain why you do not have pics of the actual marriage, only the engagement ceremony. good luck in the interview

one quick question, was the engagement ceremony close to the actual marriage? maybe you can bypass calling it an engagement, if everyone was dressed in traditional attire.

It was within that same week. We were in traditional attire though we didn't have the garland, i.e., varmala.

Thanks to everyone on Visajourney! Just heard back from my wife, she got the visa without any problems. Did not ask for any pictures. Though they did see her passbook (to see if I sent her any money, which I did!), call details, email records, greeting card.

Congrats! That's great news! Did you send any pics at all during the process? I only ask because my photos were sent back to me!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

No, I did not send any wedding pictures at all in the process. My wife took few pictures to the interview. But they didn't see them. However, they did check pictures for one of my friend's wife! So, I would suggest take the pictures with you to the interview.
