I just do not know where to start. It seems that the more I understand about the K-1 process the more I realize that I do not understand. Can someone "take me home" and make me understand what else needs to happen before I can get my fiancee.

Okay, I have been approved and my fiancee received her first packet. She filled out form DS-230 and sent it in two weeks ago. It was my understanding that she would receive an interview date shortly after doing this. And I have an attorney. Well my fiancee is asking me to call DOS (I don't even know who this is). What processes should I expect from this point for her to have an interview date? She is in China so specific information would even be better. I am contemplating a trip if this is going to take a while. Quite frankly I thought she would be here by now.

All the information that I have received has been about the simplicity of doing this. I have egg on my face with my fiance's family and my friends. It seems that I just can't get to the truth. All help is much appreciated.

You can find many members strictly for [China] Guangzhou based visas at www.cflgallery.com , there's FAQs specific for Guangzhou.

The average [at that site] for P3 to P4 is: 45 days; then another 35 for an interview... From submission to Interview, K1s are running about 8.5 months, faster this year than last year.

You can call DOS for case updates (1-202-663-1225) ... The main items you want to ask them at this stage is whether the name check has been initiated and whether it is complete or not. That is the only delay you should experience at this point. As for an interview, they will not be able to tell you anything till you are about another 30-40 days.

On her P3 was a list of items for her to collect... She should start to collect these, particularly the notarial translations. As soon as she gets the P4, she will need to get her medical exam, pay the visa fee, and you'll prepare your financials (which you can start on now) for her to have at the interview...

oops, too bad about losing face.

Check out the site candleforlove for China-specifcs. My understanding is that China = one year overall, as a rough guesstimate.

It all is simple, btw. It's just that the waits at the Consulate are typically very long.
