Thanks for all of your imput regarding my post from yesterday. We just had an Infopass appt. and here's what we learned:

-Considering our timframe (applying for removal of conditions in January 2010), we need not apply for a lost or stolen GC via I-90

-The top tear-off portion of the paper which was attached to the green card (the one that says "Important Information-Save This Mailer" must accompany the I-751 along with photocopy of passport stamp, police report, State photo ID, and a letter explaining lack of Green Card.

-Once the application is received, we will receive a letter which we will take back to Infopass for a new current stamp.

-If they request a current stamp while processing the application we will have it to send. If not, we will be processed like anyone else.

She explained NOT to worry, these things happen all the time and they are obligated to make considerations on a case by case basis.

Although we are required to carry her GC at all times, the agent agreed it would be a waste of time and money given the timeframe.

Yes, we could re-apply via the I-90 to cover our butts and be overly cautious....BUT IT IS NOT NECESSARY!
