I have never seen a road project here going on at night. They usually disrupt people during the day.

The I-287 reconstruction project in my neck of the woods is almost entirely at night.

I'm shocked. That project must be cost 200 zillion then...

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What I don't understand is why projects cost so much yet take so long to build here. Plus, the quality of most new roads are questionable.

For example, they built a 24 mile inner city freeway from scratch in Melbourne. They had to basically buy 24 miles worth of land and property, including houses in the way. The total project cost $2.5 billion and was completed in 3 years. The project and road is privately leased for 40 years, therefore, it saves the tax payer money. The same project here would cost at least $15 billion and taken at least 10 years. Plus the quality of the roads there are second to none. Street lights, proper marking, reflectors, high impact wire separation between direction, high quality low noise asphalt and modern clear sound barriers.

Also keep in mind blue collar workers in Australia average around $50 an hour. When they work at night, they earn about $120 an hour. A friend of mind who's an architect, quit and went to night shift on large projects. Makes nearly quarter of a mill and has no headaches. I have never seen a road project here going on at night. They usually disrupt people during the day.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. ;)
