It seems obvious to me that we're just going to get some watered down compromise legislation that doesn't address the fundamental problems of the current system. The real problem here is that our politicians have no balls.

I tend to think, however, (or maybe I just hope so) that rather than actual concessions being made at this point, the debate is being kept alive. Once each side has firmly drawn their lines in the sand, there's not going to be much left to discuss. I guess we'll see. My hopes for real and meaningful reform are fading, though.

Why does everybody think that illegals have Medicaid? Most states have strict requirements about citizenship or legal status when it comes to getting Medicaid.

Illegals may be able to walk into a hospital, get service, and never pay the bill. But most of them don't have Medicaid.

I was actually kidding around, but...

They can get it actually. If they're legal at the time they apply for it, at least in NY they normally won't cancel it on them after their status becomes illegal. (A large number of illegal aliens in NY actually come in legally and overstay).

Another thing is that if you are pregnant your immigrant status doesn't matter since every pregnant woman in NY will be covered by NYS Medicaid. You don't even need a social. After the child is born you are covered for post-partum care and then your child is eligible for medicaid because they are a citizen of the US.

I used to volunteer at a hospital. Soooo... yeah. Illegals can get medicaid. It happens. Also ever hear of "borrowed" documents?

I'm not one of those people who are so anti- illegal immigration, I'm just saying, this is how it is.
