Hello, I am in process of putting together the document package to start K1 process. However, I am having a couple of questions that need immediate answers. I tried calling USIS but got nowhere therefore I am hoping to get answers from this forum:

1) I lost my naturalization certificate and learned that to get a replacement would take months. Based on the I-129F instruction, it seem to say that a valid US passport could be used a proof of citizenship instead. My question is..what the proper way to fill out Item 10 on form I-129F?

2) For proofs of relationship, there are no entry stamps on my passport although I have made 2 trips to visit my fiance's homeland in past year. I learned somewhere that new passport now has built-in chip that eliminates the need for stamping? Must passport have entry stamps to show proof? I do have copy of the flight ticket..would this be enough?

Thanks in advance.

You are a naturalized citizen. The passport is valid proof, copy ALL pages and front and back cover. BUT you still need to provide your naturalization certificate number, you don't have the number anywhere? Airline boarding passes are accepted as evidence of travel. Something like an e-ticket would not be acceptable. Boarding passes prove travel, tickets only prove you bought a ticket.

Gary, thanks for quick reply...unfortunately, i don't have the naturalization certificate number. Is there anyway to get this number without going through the certificate replacement process? Thx

I am not sure. I doubt by phone call, they simply will not give this information to someone over the phone. Maybe an infopass appointment at the local USCIS office. My other concern is that while a passport CAN be used as proof of citizenship, question 10 specifically states to attach a copy of the naturalization certificate. (google "infopass" then enter your zip code for the local office. You make the appointment online.)

If you submit without this, you WILL get an RFE. That will delay your case, not sure for how long. Maybe weeks. How long does it take to get a copy? If it is under 4 weeks, I would wait for the copy. If it is some ridiculous amount of time, you could file without out, in the meantime get the certificate and have it ready when the RFE arrives. One caution...the RFE will have a time limit that you must respond, if you do not have the certificate yet, it could be a problem, so it is a risk. You need to decide. An RFE can easily set you back 4 weeks in the process, maybe more, even if you respond the day it arrives.

Gary, thanks again for your advises. I just made appointment with the local USCIS office. Hopefully, they might clarify the matter. I certainly don't want the RFE if I could help it. BTW, after some digging, I was able to find my Alien registration number. I am wondering if this number may help in retrieving my naturalization certificate number...
