If you did that you'd get into an accident. Unsurprisingly they're very common.

My view - it has a lot to do with the standard of the driving test certification. When I took my test in CA it took less than 30 minutes driving around quiet streets and they don't require you to merge in heavy traffic or do any reversing manoeuvers.

That is one of the issues. Fines are simply too low here. Let someone receive a few thousand dollars worth of fines for speeding and have their insurance skyrocket, then they will think about others. You can also enact the confiscation of vehicles laws, proving to be great success back in Vicctoria.

First offense, lose your car 48 hours

Second offense, lose it for 3 months.

Third offense, car is confiscated and sold by the commonwealth.

If they had these laws when I was 19, I'd have no car.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Fines are pretty f*cking expensive actually - you're looking at several hundred dollars a pop and points on your license. The difference between NJ and SoCal is that there are fewer cops on the highways in NJ.

Most of it though is due to people not really knowing how to drive - because the driving test isn't much of a challenge.

Aus and UK have nipped speeding in the '#######' by bombarding the cities with cameras.

First you have the random speeding cameras on the side of the road, which take photos of your speeding car. Fine is in the mail.

They also have time lapsed cameras on the highways. So if you get from point A to point C (and so on) in under x time. Fine is in the mail.

Then they also have the new age cameras that take a photo of you speeding and measure your speed, as most likely you speed up to run the red light. Both fines in the mail there too. If you are traveling fast enough, you receive a summons at the same time and have to mail your license in to their DMV.

How do I know about these? I've lost my license a number of times.

The cameras are contentious in the UK and continue to be - due to some very dodgy placement.

They do that on the Garden State Parkway if you use EZPass.

We were wondering how it works if you pay cash in the coin basket. If the booth doesn't register your payment you're supposed to honk your horn after 10 seconds and carry on driving.

Makes me wonder if anyone's tried to get past by flinging pennies, foreign coins or bolts into the thing. Honk after 10 seconds and you're away ;)

They take pictures. I never use those baskets anymore, half the time I throw a coin in it doesn't even fvcking register.

As much as I hate them, this proactive enforcement has resulted in peopling to slow down. As has reckless driving with the confiscation of people's car.

60 (km) means 60 there. 65 (mph) here can mean 70 or even 75. I've been past a state trooper at 85 on the interstates.
