Questions on getting an interview and medical appt - LONDON embassy

Hi all -

My fiance sent all his forms in a week ago to the London embassy. Do they typically mail out some kind of a receipt saying "yes, we got all your paperwork and you're now in the queue"? Also, is he supposed to make an appt for his medical before getting his interview date? I've read that some people make the medical appt and then tell the embassy when it is in hopes of getting an interview date on the same day? He can't really afford to make 2 trips to London, so we'd really like to have both appts the same day if at all possible. I'm just nervous that if he waits to make the appointment for the medical, they'll be all booked for the day he has his interview.

Also, Mark couldn't decide what forms were supposed to be sent in to the embassy, so he sent everything that the letter told him to download and fill in. Is that going to hurt us, or was that the appropriate thing to do?

Any info you could give me would be great.

Thanks!

Shelby

Darned topic got moved while I was replying. :(

No, they don't tell you they received it.

No, you do not have to make an appointment for the medical before the interview. In fact, you can have the medical after the interview, no issues (except a slight delay, as they will have to wait for the results before visa processing can begin). I believe that those who try to have the medical on the same day (or the day before or the day after) call for an appointment with Knightsbridge as soon as they know the interview date. It seems to work out pretty well. DOS can tell you when your interview date is as soon as it's scheduled (as opposed to waiting for the letter in the mail), but you have to call them. 202 663 1225

Yes, I think you mail the forms in but bring the documents with you. Some forms were supposed to be signed, some not. If he's unsure he can print out another copy and bring them unsigned to the interview with him. I don't think that sending too many things will hurt (like sending too few would).

Lastly, why don't you come on down to the UK forum? We've got pinned threads for medicals, and recommended hotels etc.

Oooh, I wasn't aware there was a UK forum! Good deal.

I guess i"m just nervous and over-thinking things because we're trying to plan a wedding on 10/10/09 and the longer we go without hearing anything, the more freaked out I get about spending money on a wedding...which, I know, we probably shouldn't have started laying money out for stuff until he had visa in hand, but things just didn't work out that way.

If you turn out to have an average case, 10/10/09 should be totally do-able! We wanted to get married on 10/10 (as it's the same on both sides of the pond!!), but we wanted the venue more, and it was already booked. Now, we are getting married on 11/10/09 (Oct 11.)

Also, I totally understand about already putting money out. We really wanted a legal/ceremonial/whole family affair all at once, and it needs to be PLANNED!
