But...the example is for a K-1 visa and is the first documentation sent. Joe may already have a file.

File number you put NONE, because you still don't have a case number.

I always love seeing people who know absolutely nothing about what the question is, or the form, giving advice. This is the AOS forum, not the K-1 forum.

As you are filing for AOS, and NOT the I-129F, there are several numbers you need to know.

First, is your File Number (also referred to as your Alien Registration Number), or A#, which comes from your NOA's that is a 9 digit number printed in the beneficiary block.

Second, is your I-94 number, which is the number at the top of the Departure Card stapled inside your passport at your POE.

Third, is the visa number, which is the RED number on your K-1 Visa inside your passport.

Not required, but definitely to your advantage to have, is a SSN, which is also asked for on the I-485, G-325A, and I-864.

So in answer to your question, the File Number, A__________, at the top of the G-325A, and the (Alien Registration Number) at the bottom of the form, are the same number, and come from either your NOA1 or NOA2.

Sorry my bad I didnt notice this was the AOS forum, I saw this on the first page and thought she was refering to the same G325 I had to fill out.

So my appologies for giving one advice correct and one wrong, after all I linked her to the example forms.
