On the Nonimmigrant Fiance Visa Application Form DS-156K there is a question about marital status that reads: "How and when was marriage terminated?" Okay I get the "when" part but "how"? If there is anyone else there who was previously married and filled out this form, can you let me know what you wrote? Domo arigato!

Perhaps because there wasn't any humor in it. Divorce and death are by far the two most common ways that marriages end.

I just realized, you're absolutely right! That's exactly what they mean. I took the word 'terminated' to mean 'divorced' but of course that's not necessarily the case. I swear my mind is fried from filling in forms. And don't even get me started on the police check or the doctor's visit!!! It was one darn thing after another. I even had a police woman at the station ask, "Don't you know if you've committed a crime? Why do you need a police check."
