Hello,

After loads of planning and diligence to gather documents in all stages of the process, it seems some of the final documents we need in India for the consulate have been proving difficult to obtain in a timely manner.

So, the "valid from" section on the I-797 says "valid from 3/31/09 to 7/31/09."

We already know we'll have to likely re-schedule the first appointment date, which is June 5th. How much time do we have total?

Would we be allowed to re-schedule to as late as 7/31; the date on NOA2/ I-797?

I think that would be up to the embassy in question.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

you should email them and check...

We will be emailing them on Monday.

Unfortunately , for the Indian state that my fiance is in, corruption has been a serious issue for us all of a sudden. We have come so far only to be "blocked" by people giving different answers-- and basically hassling her for money to help "speed up the process" to obtain the needed records. It's quite bad ):

Of course with these records, she has to surrender her passport, so we couldn't do that until we were given the interview date and the instructions by email-- and she had to fly to chennai to do her medical first, since that required the passport as well.

We have both been so diligent and thorough, that finally getting a date and having to consider asking to push it back is truly depressing... but after she surrendered her passport last week there is very little guarantee they will issue the records in time for the June 5th interview... so we will be emailing the consulate on Monday.

Even more frustrating.. the former state that she lived in would turn around the same records in a matter of a day or two. But in Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad), even after the official answer was "up to 30 days," the lady at the counter rudely told her up to three months. (!!!) That would push us past our expiration for NOA2, so we are angry and distressed. ):
