What about simple practicality. Because a few homophobic parents don't like homosexuality they want to insulate their children from the reality of it.

I just fail to see why one has to get into all this **-talk to teach kids bullying behavior is wrong.

Do they have a whole list of possible family situations which might come up for ridicule by kids on the playground?

Yes. And behavior situations and race/religion sensitivity as well.

Now, as to the NCLB ridiculousness, all that did was dumb down education to the point where teachers don't get to teach their subject, but rather they teach to a state mandated standardized test. Don't blame the teachers, though there are crappy ones out there, but blame the people who instituted this act and who think teachers should teach to the lowest common denominator in their classrooms.

To be fair, that was happening long before NCLB ever occurred. I was in high school during the 1990s and the classes were mostly geared around whatever was necessary for the SAT/ACT.

That's different, DPX. I'm talking about state-mandated and state-written testing that essentially requires teachers to direct their teaching to the lowest level of understanding in a classroom. AP classes and junior/senior level Language Arts/History/Science/etc classes that aim to help kids on the SAT/ACT are different (still not right, IMHO, but different from what I'm referring to).
