Hi all,

We chose the K1 process because it seemed faster than the K3 process, especially given the fact that it probably would have taken us a couple months to get married and finalize the paperwork in Brazil.

But not being married has its disadvantages... my Brazilian tourist visa is up, and I'll have to leave soon if I want to have some time on my visa left for the interview. (I know, staying illegally is an option, but I have to make at least short visits to the states this fall).

Can we still get a K1 visa if we get married in the meantime? Or does that mess up the process?

Thanks!

It messes up the K-1 process, but you can change to K-3 or CR-1. You cannot get a fiancee visa if there is no "fiancee". They take the word literally, if she says "I do" she immediately (and you immediately) cease to be a fiance(e) and neither of you is "free to marry"

HEHE as long as they let you in the U.S.A. as visitor then GOT MARRIED there is nothing ILLEGAL about that.

Yes, it is and it is called an immigration fraud, because you enter US on non-immigrant visa with INTENT to immigrate.

No it's not, immigration is when you live in another country. Marrying is not living there. :)
