Guam considered valid US port of entry for SE Asia US PR?

My wife has US PR status but is planning on staying in her home country for more than a year. In order to maintain her PR status she can not be outside of the US for more than a year though so she will need to enter the US every year. Since she is currently in SE Asia, is it possible for her to visit Guam instead of flying to the continental US to maintain her PR status?

Since Guam is a US Port of Entry will it be valid? Has anyone else done this? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Yearly short visits to the U.S. do not preserve permanent resident status.

If she is making her primary domicile outside the U.S. she will most likely lose her PR status sooner or later.

The plan is not to make this a yearly trip for years but just to maintain her PR status for the next couple years. If we did better planning we would have applied for a re-entry permit so she could be outside the US for up to 2 years. I am planning on relocating to her country for a year or two but we will ultimately be returning to the US where we still own a residence.

I am just trying to save some money by taking a short vacation to Guam instead of flying all the way back to the continental US.

Living in Guam DOES NOT affect your conditional green card status, neither does it affect the removal of its conditions. Guam is not continental USA, but it is still U.S. soil.

Therefore, moving from continental U.S. to Guam, which is also U.S., WILL NOT affect your 3 year requirement for naturalization.

Don't worry so much! You're making it bigger than what it really is.

my brother got his immigrant visa last March 2010 and stayed in California for 2 weeks, he had to go back for his internship in the Philippines and he was not able to apply for a re-entry permit, he is graduating in April 2011, and plans to visit Guam before March 2011 instead of California because of time restriction to avoid being away for more than 1 year since he has no re-entry permit, thank you
