Yeah really... Its not physically possible.

The very best compression that a DVD player can play right now is Xvid. For a 2 hour movie at high compression it comes out to a file size of 700 meg. A standard DVD holds 4.7 gig. Do the math, that is less than 8 movies per disc. Even at that compression it is still no where near DVD quality.

Dude,

You can spin the numbers all you want, Do all the math formulas you want. Talk about Gigs, Compression Rate, Etc.

All I do is put a DVD into a DVD Player and watch it

It looks the same to me, I can't tell a difference

DVD = Digital Versatile Disc not Digital Video Disc

Anyway, What I wanted to imply was with the holographic disc, one can store massive amounts of information. This includes, but, not limited to movies, music, application.

Truly, the Blu-Ray movies are still compressed and filtered video. Using holographic disc means less compression therefore higher quality moving pictures.

There are two types of compression scheme as almost everyone knows. They are the loss-less compression and no-loss compression. The holographic disc will irreputably be replacing blu-ray at some point into the future. DVDs only been out for like a decade before it gets replaced with Blu-Ray. Go figure how quickly we'll change to adapt to holographic disc.

Sorry for derailing your post. This new format does hold huge promise. It makes me wonder, however, if this also means my Hi-Def TV will also become obsolete sometime soon. Will 1080P be replaced with something much higher? I wonder what the limits of eye acuity are and at what point further resolution becomes redundant? Maybe walk around holograms are in our future?

There will be higher resolution in the future capable of higher than 1080p. Currently, those TV sets are worth about 50k-100k dollars. Since the future is about sustainability, new type of pixel materials are being experimented such as the OLED (uses less power, and may affect the resolution). The human eye will not be able to pick up much more.

Many TVs now has 120 hz refresh rate to 400 hz refresh rate. They are opening up the potential for 3D vision. The theory is by having the odd-interlace lines refresh at 60 hz, and the even-interlace lines refresh at 60 hz combining to 120 hz. This means with a pair of glasses set to seperate the odd and even lines will give you a 3d effect.

The military is working around holograms. I know they are using holograms projection as we speak. Hopefully, we'll see it in action sometime.
