I've jsut spent the last 3 hours compiling all the data from the wonderful people who have uploaded there k1 timelines. I noticed a trend that Packet three Sent to interview date seriously impacts the length of ones post NOA2 Timeline. I found that people who returned packet 3 immediatly waited 39 days until there interview while people who sat on there packet 3 for awhile ended up waiting 39 days plus the time between receiving and sending there packet 3.

Am I correct that the NVC -> Visa Received time depends almost entirely on how quickly you ship off your Packet 3?

I only looked at people over the pst year and a half who are using the same Consulate and Service Center as myself.

Am I on to something here or am I grasping at straws because the length of this process is so sad?

Hello Kate and Matt! Yes I do think that how quickly you are prepared to send back your Packet 3 will affect your outcome when it comes to your interview date. I am speaking though directly about Vancouver though because generally depending on seasonal demand they schedule you within 4-6 weeks of sending back Packet 3. Montreal can be a different story though. I think what also affects Visa received time is what you list as preferred dates for interview when sending back the Vancouver checklist (Packet 3).

As you may know the only doctor left in Western canada to perform immigration medicals is in Vancouver, and they only do appts on Wednesdays, sometimes Thursdays depending on demand. So people like myself have to go to Vancouver and get it all done in "one shot." Putting "first available" on the checklist will allow you to get in fairly quickly. Putting "first available" Thursday or Friday may set you back around 1 month because its popular due to people doing the medical on Wednesday. I put first available Tuesday or Thursday and also informed them that I have to travel to Vancouver at the same time for the medical. There have been a few people on VJ that have done the interview on a Tuesday, medical on Wednesday and picked up visa on thursday, the consulate is well aware of the medical situation, but they have to be informed that your medical results will not be brought to the interview, rather the next day, and you will be approved pending the medical results.

I spent the time between NOA2 and finding out NVC had sent the petition to Vancouver filling out forms needed and getting my fiance to prepare documents for the I-134. I think what made it easier though was that during that time I was in the U.S. visiting my fiance! It sure did help for that to happen but it was not planned!

Once you Fax back your P3 checklist to the Embassy in Vancouver, on that checklist you indicate when you would like to have your interview and a week later you will receive your P4 in the mail stating your interview date. Luckily if you are going through Vancouver the process is alot faster than going through Montreal.

I received my P3 in February and requested an interview date for April, because I knew I would be down in Vancouver at that time. They gave me the interview date that I requested. So I am sure if I had asked for a March date, I may have gotten my interview sooner.

Due to the fact that you fax back your forms to Vancouver instead of mailing it back, I am sure that is one of the reasons it is a little quicker too. That and the fact that they probably aren't as busy as Montreal since they don't process any CR-1 interviews.

Hi Kate and Matt,

As soon as you get your NOA2 starts gathering all the paper needed for the interview. You will need to submit the part 1 of the form DS-230, the form DS-160 that we do online and also the forms 156 for you and each child. They will ask for the following documents (also for your child) with one photocopy as they will look at the original and give it back to you and will keep the copy for their file:

birth certificate

passport (make sure it is still valid for a few years)

5 passport photos as per their requirements size (3 for medical and 2 for visa)

police certificate (should not be more than 3 months old)

court and prison records (only if you have been convicted for crime)

military records (only if you have been in it)

medical exam (take your appointment asap)

divorce and death certificate (if you or fiance have been previously married)

evidence of support (Form I-134 Affidavit of Support must be done by your fiance and notarized)

another letter from your fiance stating that he is still willing to married you

documents for accompanying child (the same than above at the exception of police certificate)

Court jugement showing sole custody of child

letter from child other parent stating he does not have any objection to the child immigration to the US

For the medical your child will also need to go through it. There is only 4 doctors doing it and 2 are located in Montreal, one is in Vancouver and in Toronto. You will need to bring your vaccination records to the medical exam and the copy of the letter in packet 3.

People are right when saying that Vancouver is really fast compare to Montreal because you can fax your documentation and are less busy than Montreal.
