My husband and I are stressed out and would like your thoughts on our situation. Without going into all the details, this is my husband second marriage. His ex-wife filed for him over 5 years ago. The case was denied because they requested additional information from them and did not receive it. They were already having marital problems and did not pursue the case any further. He was not ordered to leave the country or anything of that sort (no fraud). But we still hired a lawyer to make sure everything goes smoothly.

We had our AOS immigration interview back in January of this year. Everything went well but medical was filled out incorrectly according to the IO. They gave us an appointment in March to bring back the medical. When we went back, we were told that medical was still incorrect. To make a long story short, finally we returned last week of March, the officer said everything was fine and that she was approving us. She gave my husband a self-addressed envelope to return his employment authorization card once he receives the green card. She said we should have in 2 weeks. My husband offered to give her the EA card since he had it with him. She said to wait until he gets his green card.

Well it is now 4 weeks and we haven’t heard anything. Our status online did not change since before the interview. We called the 800 number and they sent a request to the local office to update the case. We received a letter in the mail saying that they are further reviewing the case and we should have an answer within the next 6 months. What does that mean? From reading the different timeline, it seems as though everybody gets their approval letter or card fairly quickly. We are both losing sleep over this. Anybody had a similar situation? What was the outcome? We were planning a trip in July. Now we don’t know what to do.

I thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions.

It's only been two weeks since the original two week timeline the IO gave you. The website is oft times not updated. I was approved and received my GC long before it was noted on the site, so your status there shouldn't count for much. I'd give it a few more weeks. If you're really distressed about this, and losing sleep like you suggested, then perhaps you could get an INFO pass appointment at your local office. They're going to just check on the computer as well, and it may or may not have different information. However, I have seen in the past where at the infopass appointment, the person sent an email which then perhaps prompted whoever was holding the file to get the card out, or change the status on-line. There has been situations where it seemed like after the email was sent from the infopass appointment there was movement on the case, so it won't hurt to try this angle.

Best of luck and I hope you hear something soon! In all probability however, you should hear something within the next several weeks.

Thanks for the response. I guess I should just be patient and wait. Since everyone I've spoken to got their GC within 2 weeks, I got worried. Thanks again.
