Hi All,

I hope someone can help answer my question regarding traveling outside of the U.S with the CR1 Visa.

I came over to the U.S with the CR1 Visa on Sept 2005. After months of writing back and forth enquiring the status of my permanent resident card, we have finally been informed that the card was issued and must have been lost in the mail. I need to reapply for the card again and pay the $260 fees as well. This process may take up another 90 days or so.

In the meantime, can I use the CRI visa to travel back and forth? On the visa, there is a note mentioning that I can use the visa for 1 year "Upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year". So, does this mean that I can travel with this CR1 Visa until Sept 2006?

What about after a year...Visa expires and no green card yet? What documents do I need to travel with to ensure that I will be able to get back to the U.S hassle free?

Would really appreciate hearing back from anyone who has gone through this situation. :help:

Thanks,

Sue

After Sept 2006, you can go to your local District Office and get a passport endorsement regarding your permanent resident statis .. commonly called the I-551 stamp...

You will be lucky to get your replacement greencard within 90 days.... I filed my I-90 on Feb 3rd 2006 got new biometrics May 23rd 2006 and was told I should get the new card in the mail within 6 months.....

So still I wait..... your CR1 is good until Sept 2006 then just make an infopass appointment and get the I-551 stamp in your passport....

Good Luck

Kezzie
