Sparsely populated midwestern states may get stimulus money for rail.... this makes no sense.

If, if, don't give ifs. Trains can carry vast amounts of mass, that's why freight still chugs along cross country. Those trains are the workhorses of this great capitalist empire.

more porkbarreling ####### from a guy who has done nothing butt pull pork his entire working life. this time he pulls pork right back to his hometown so he can pay off all of his corrupt business contacts by awarding them contracts at millions over cost and get shoddy workmanship, just like he has done as long as he's been in the business of fleecing the American taxpayers. wonder who is gonna arrange for him to "buy a house" at 40% of market value next?

you voted for this A$hole. now you gotta watch him rob all of us blind. oh wait, none of you yerks who voted for this creep pay taxes, anyway. he mails you all "earned income credit" (free cash), so what's not to like. so what if the entire system buckles under the weight of corruption and the welfare burden. you got yours for sitting on the porch.

You are aware that the "String" part of the G-STRING goes in the back right? Can't figure out this irrational whiner rant.

Everyone knows, the only high speed train one from Los Angeles to Las Vegas!

Here is one out of the box proposal, if a six mile square 200 story building were made, would allow 400 square feet per person with an additional 200 square feet per person for stairways, hallways, and elevators that could house all 360 million of us. Thus no need for transportation, but God help us if everyone would flush their toilets at the same time.

The history of railroads is interesting in this country, permitted people to spread out, and rare to find any town in the midwest that doesn't have a railroad track running down the middle of it. Was the only means of transportation. Recall as little as one train per day by the old timers with their stories, left at 8:00 AM in the morning and returned back to their dead end town at 5:00PM, was an all day affair to see a doctor, dentist, or do a little shopping.

Was a luxury for most, as even back at the turn of the last century, could cost 6-10 cents per mile for a ticket, for most, a ten mile trip was a full days pay. But was the only means of transportation.

Chicago had a huge CTA system and as a hub had trains going every which way, but most went broke, requires huge maintenance for the railroad beds, train stations with paid employees to selll tickets, engineers, firemen, conductors. It just wasn't an economical means of transportation, plus very inconvenient for travelers due to a very limited schedule. We did take the train from a Chicago suburb last year only 30 miles as you can't find a place to park in downtown Chicago, but at 14 bucks per person round trip, costs 42 bucks for the three of us. Talking to other passengers, they buy a monthly pass for around 150 bucks to make that cheaper for them. But was nice because all the cars had to stop for our train, so more for convenience, but we still had to walk 16 blocks after getting there.

But the major reason for taking the train, that time, was that same trip by car can take anywhere from 6-12 hours depending on traffic, accidents, and weather, took a little over two hours by train, but we still had to wait several hours for our train to come back and if we missed that one, would have had to stay overnight.

Doesn't seem like our leaders are asking why all these train lines went broke, thousands of miles of track have been lifted in Wisconsin, some are bike trails, other are complete history. The latter seems a waste to me, at least a hundred foot right away and an ideal spot to build a highway. The tracks when directly from town to town where all the roads were built N-S or E-W, always have to drive the side of a triangle instead of the much shorter hypotenuse to get from town to town.

I suppose to stimulate the economy, people from Chicago to take these new trains to Milwaukee, Madison, or the Twin Cities to read no-help wanted ads.

Jennifer Granholm ...what a joke! Her greatest accomplishment since she took office... 0. She's not fit to govern a dog kennel.
Well....did you expect differently from someone who was educated/moulded during "Wacky" Bennett's Premiership of BC?
