Hello... this is my first post in VJ... so hopefully I'm doing this right. I'm petitioning my fiancee who is currently residing in the philippines. She is currently living in one of my parent's homes there.. staying with relatives. At the same time I am petitioning her... my parents are also petitioning/adopting my second cousins (my cousin/their mother passed away last year). She is caring for them at this time. I'm 29 and she's 21. The kids (in high school) are looking up to her as if she were their guardian and mother figure. I know it's a lot for her to handle at this age.. and I know she's stressing about it... so I try to help her out as much as possible. But... I want to try to expedite things with her... as my parents are trying to expedite things with the adoption.

Anyway... here's my first set of question...

1) How long before I receive first NOA?

I've filed the petition for a few weeks already. When should I expect to receive my first notice that the documents have been filed? I'm not too far away from the processing center, and have received confirmation that it's been received via US mail, however, it's been a few weeks already. I've noticed in a few timelines that there are instances when the first NOA happened within the same week. Any comments of it taking longer?

2) Do they cash the check first before sending the NOA?

I guess this question goes along with the first. I'm hoping for a slight relief that it's being processed.

3) If I need more info for supporting my Affidavit of support, would this hold up the initial processing?

I am filing the petition myself, and have been trying to find the information to put the packet together. I didn't come across this site until after we filed. I read somewhere on this about it requesting more information that could take a few weeks at the bank. Now... I can't remember where I saw that information at.

I know I'll be posting quite frequently on this site. I've got a lot more questions to ask, but hopefully this will alleviate some of the concerns I have about this petition.

It is not uncommon for it to take a couple of weeks. But I am a bit confused. You state, "and have received confirmation that it's been received via US mail". What did you get in the mail. The NOA1 is a I-767. It includes your USCIS case number which you can then track on the USCIS web site. You should be getting your NOA1 anytime now.

2) Do they cash the check first before sending the NOA?

I guess this question goes along with the first. I'm hoping for a slight relief that it's being processed.

Yes. The back of the check will also usually have the USCIS case number on it.

3) If I need more info for supporting my Affidavit of support, would this hold up the initial processing?

I am filing the petition myself, and have been trying to find the information to put the packet together. I didn't come across this site until after we filed. No this becomes more important at the interview.

The confirmation was via USMail. When I sent the packet to the local processing center in laguna niguel, I sent the packet US Mail with a delivery confirmation. I wanted to be sure that the packet was received.

Okay so they at least have the package and that was a good move on your part. Did they cash the check? I would check that next. If they did they you can get the case number off the back of the check.

Not yet.... I was hoping they would have done so by now.

They received it close to the end of last month. I'm at my office, and unfortunately didn't bring my petition folder with me to check the exact date. I know that it's been a few weeks already since it was received. And... I'm only in San Diego... which isn't too far from laguna niguel. Does it go to another processing center from there?
