can we walk in to USCIS?

I've been having trouble and trouble and trouble getting SSN. it's been 2 months i got my EAD in my hands, but SS offcie just keep saying they can't issue me a number coz' they need a verification from DHS, and looks like that verification will never come.

What can I do about this? i really need to get the SSN by april 15 coz' my husband need to file tax with me as his dependent which we need it as a proof of relationship. since i've been here we've never had documents with both our names as relationship proof at all coz' I have problem with SSN.

can we walk-in to USCIS and get that EAD verification in writing or something like that by ourself? there's no infopass date avilable before the 15th at all.

Anyone in here ever walked-in to USCIS? please share your experience please..............

Go to the SS website. Download information regarding K-1 visas then go back the SS office and ask for a supervisor, you should get an SSN right away and stop this nonsense caused by ignorant, untrained government clerks that make up rules when they don't know the answer. Don't leave unti you get your application in and card on the way.

Belay my last. I just saw you are "AOS pending" If the I-94 is expired you are out of luck until you get the AOS.

I say, pick them up at the airport, and drive straight to the SS office for the SSN. Thi sis nonsense to now be stuck when you could have had her card on day one.

Social Security will issue a number with an EAD. The greencard is not necessary.

And driving the alien from the airport to the Social Security office is usually fruitless. SSA has to have confirmation from CBP of the aliens entry. This typically takes a couple of weeks to occur. Best bet is to go to a SS office about 2-3 weeks after arrival. The alien will need their passport showing the visa and I94 and their birth certificate. Unfortunately it is sometimes necessary to go to another office or ask for a supervisor. Our office had no issues and understood the K1 status.

hey guys....thank you for all the replies.

i have an update for you guys here, me and my husband already went back to SSA this morning as last week they said they had requested an online verification for me. We got there and those stupid employees just said the same thing "No reply from DHS yet!".

Then my husband started to loose his temper as he's been very very upset even more upset than me, he asked to see the superviser but those employees just kept saying "It is not NECESSARY!" so my husband told them he was gonna sue them.

Ah, so now they listen. we finally got to speak with there superviser. My husband threw a fit on her a little bit just to get her attention and then she worked something on the computer for a while and then the superviser woman apologize to us, she said i'm already in the system, she's sorry that the staff looked in the wrong place of the system and she's sorry it has been mishandled befoer the whole time! (Dah!)

ok, so now i'm being issued the number which i will go get it first thing in the morning and we will get the tax, joint bank account, and other utilities bill all set.

I hope my experience will be useful for some people who's encountering the same trouble like me. remember, don't believe everything those goverment employees say, some of them are really UNTRAINED!
