so my fiancee received the packet from the consulate in montreal and i have a few questions. i've read the timeline and the guides, but i'm still very confused about a few things, so if you would indulge me this once...

step 1: send the DS-230 (biographic data) and the DS-160 (which was not included in the packet) to the consulate FIRST. fill it out and send it back asap.

step 2: gather passport, 5 passport photos, a medical report, and birth certificate.

my question here is- do they want COPIES of this stuff? surely they couldn't take your original passport?

step 3: once they have received the DS-230 pt 1 they will send him an appt date and time.

it says here in the paperwork "Processing time for the K-1 visa at this office is estimated at four to six months from the receipt of this checklist to interview date. (!!!) has anyone had a shorter experience? i was under the impression that the longest we had to wait was for our NOA2 ! :(

more questions:

do they really mean it when they ask for a list of dates of ALL previous visits to the united states??! ALL PREVIOUS DATES? my fiancee has been visiting back and forth for the past 10 years! i couldn't even begin to remember all of the times and dates! what should we do here?

included in the packet was DS-156K, Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) Visa Application. who fills this out? the wording is confusing to me. it also says to use it with form DS-156 (which was not included in the packet).

lastly, when we go to the interview should we bring the originals of everything we sent photocopied previously?

i know that's a lot of questions, but this is a bit of money we have to spend to pay the fee and get to montreal, so i want to make certain everything is just right.

thanks in advance, you guys!

The DS-160 is completed online and they should have send you the info for that.

step 2: gather passport, 5 passport photos, a medical report, and birth certificate.

my question here is- do they want COPIES of this stuff? surely they couldn't take your original passport?

From my understanding they take a copy but you must have the original available for inspection if requested.

step 3: once they have received the DS-230 pt 1 they will send him an appt date and time.

it says here in the paperwork "Processing time for the K-1 visa at this office is estimated at four to six months from the receipt of this checklist to interview date. (!!!) has anyone had a shorter experience? i was under the impression that the longest we had to wait was for our NOA2 ! :(

We sent packet 3 in end of January and just got our interview date, still have received packet 4 yet though.

more questions:

I only put the dates since the whole passport necessary thing came into play as I had the dates stamped in there.

included in the packet was DS-156K, Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) Visa Application. who fills this out? the wording is confusing to me. it also says to use it with form DS-156 (which was not included in the packet).

Benificary

Sorry- I am new to all this and have a question...

Did you print out copies of DS-160(online) with confirmation page and return it with the checklist?? or are you only bringing it to the interview??

VERY CONFUSED!!!

i did print out multiple copies of ds-160's confirmation page, but i don't know whether to send it or not, now that you're asking. they got it already since it was done online. i think they want it for the interview.

ANYONE KNOW?
