Hi - We applied for an immigrant visa at the delhi embassy and I got the visa today. They said my passport with the visa will be sent in 2-3 days through courier.

Does anyone know if I need an income tax clearance certificate to show at delhi airport before i leave for usa? Are there any other formalities (in terms of indian laws) that I have to take care of?

no formalities when leaving India. Although, the Indian Immigration Officer will try to play the whole ' I have a right to ask just as many questions as the American Consulate'...when you see that coming, handle it appropriately. They may ask you basic questions like when you got married, etc...but it has no relevance because you are already approved and have a visa.

Congratulations.

I don't think income tax would be an issue, as per as I can say at Chennai Airport, I was asked those silly questions about why am I going, how long have I been married. I was even asked why did I marry a non-indian :P

From my understanding, they usually don't ask immigrant visa holders about income tax anymore because your PCC covers everything, especially PCC from passport office. If you read the PCC it clearly states that government of India has no objections for you leaving India permenantly.

Tax clearance was a requirement in early 90s though.
