As some of you know (and for those that don't) my husband has his AOS interview March 9, 2006 and we were approved pending the FBI security clearance/name check. To date we are still in limbo.

We may be moving soon. Just across town. Thus we will NOT change District Offices. I know that when we move we have to report that to the proper agencies.

Is there any possibility that if I inform our District Office we will be moving soon, that might be good enough reason to have them investigate the delay into the name check process? I'm concerned that the card could get sent to the old address. It's been enough bother getting it as it is.

Any ideas on this?

For informational purposes, his biometrics were done December 20, 2005.

Sorry to hear about your stress hun. Do you know if it will come via registered mail or not? The only thing that I can say is that if it is already in the post, I do know that from the time you make a change of address anywhere in the US, your mail will automatically be forwarded to you for upto a year unless it states on the envelope do not forward, return to sender. In the meantime, I would contact your local office and see what they suggest if perhaps it isn't in transit already and you do move.

Hope you get it sorted soon hun..

Hi Rebecca, I really think that you are going to have to send in the change of address forms. There is one for you to fill out , and one for Wes. We did this before our AOS interview on May 17th. When I received my Green Card in the mail, the address still showed our old address, but the post office forwarded it to our new address. I called the 800 number and told them they were still sending our mail to our old address and she told me it takes a month to start going to the correct address. Roger did get a letter stating that they had his address change done, plus we told the Immigration at our Interview our new address. The 800 number told us it doesnt matter that we got the letter, that it will take 30 days to recieve it at the new one. So when you move send them in, and tell your post office of your address change and they would forward it to your new address. Good Luck

You will need to fill in an AR-11 and a I-865. also phone the helpline and let them know of your change of address... I also took a letter to infopass notifying my local office of the change of address..

USCIS mail will not be forwarded like other mail after you move... so you must make sure that the local office know about it.... USCIS do not send any mail registed it all is sent as standard mail....

Good Luck with your move

Kezzie

Thanks guys for telling me the exact form numbers and procedures. I knew I had to fill out 2 forms but wasn't sure of the exact procedure.

But we aren't ready to fill out the forms yet though. We probably won't be moving for 2-3 months.

What I'm wondering is - if I notify our District Office that we are PLANNING to move in the near future, could that possibly get them off the dime regarding the name check?

r-jo,

Do all the stuff that you'd normally do for changing address (AR-11, I-865, copy of AR-11 to the DO--search my name + change address for the drill) and I LOVE the idea of taking a letter into your DO---I would DEF ask about the namecheck and get them to toggle whatever it is in their computers to wake it up.

If you don't mind going down there, you could try the "we're *gonna* move' ploy--I've found our office to be very friendly to drop in questions like these. YMMV.

As for the mail forwarding, put it in to USPS and cross your fingers. We were housesitting when the DAH's card was issued and it was forwarded to our temp. address with no problem or delay (via USPS mail fwding).
